The arm! I'd rather take a little more pain than pull down my pants in front of strangers.

Where your injection is administered depends on the type of needle that will be used. With a Subcutaneous injection the drug that is being given needs to be placed in the Subcutaneous fat under the skin. These are usually placed in the arm or abdomen in a adult, or the thigh for a small child. With an Intramuscular injection, the drug needs to be given in the muscle. These are the more painful ones, usually given in the butt or hip. The nurse/doctor that administers this shot must aspirate, or pull back on the needle, to be sure the needle is positioned in a muscule instead of a vein (of course, intraveneous meds must be given in the vein). This aspiration process can hurt, and the temperature of the drug can cause pain as well (if the meds are cold and your body is warm there can be some pain involved).

It depends. Some shots need to be intermuscular (such as as EpiPen... they suggest your outer thigh for something like that) and would require you to be injected into a muscle. Some shots need to be injected into a vein, some an artery. Some require fatty tissue. I know that most of the time if you require a shot in the butt it's a little easier to take because when you need a shot in a muscle or elsewhere it hurts a little more. Anyway... it doesn't always matter where we want a shot, it sometimes depends on where the shot really needs to be injected. Hope this helps!

it depends on the type of shot, intramuscular (IM) and subcutaneous (sub Q) are both different. If the needle is really huge then its meant to go into a muscle, subcutaneous shots go approx. 1 inch in the skin not hitting the muscle. Everything depends on what type of medicine is in the syringe. Also, it depends on the person giving the shot. I could go on about it forever. Basically its up to your pain tolerance and the type of syringe. IM shots hurt the worst though

I would rather get it in my arm so I don't have to pull down my pants. But usually, you don't have a choice. Most shots have a specific location it needs to be administered in.

The buttock has more tissue, whether it be fat or muscle, so less painful to have the injection there if its an option.
