When you call your dog back to you do you praise him over and over, tell him what a good doggie he is in that high pitch voice that makes babies coo, also makes doggies tails wag. Dogs love to do what they are asked for, but they also thrive on the praise and love they get back in return. Try using some kibble as a prize when your pup comes when called, or whenever he does a good deed, then slowley ween him off. I just use positive re enforcement. Using the food as reward is too much for me to deal with . I foster 4 dogs right now, and the less to carry and deal with is better, i find that praising and petting and showing love is the way.

Start training him. Doesn't matter if it's obedience, tracking, agility, tricks, whatever. Start working with him towards a goal. You'd be amazed how much stronger a bond you get with a dog that is your working partner, instead of "just a pet". Find a good trainer and start having fun with him.

I would say to do more obedience exercises with your dog. Stay inside with him/her with little to no destractions and work on the simple things such as, sit, lay, and stay. Make your dog look at you for the next command. After you have mastered that you should move on to some distractions in the house such as the T.V. on loud or throwing a bone while he/she is told to stay. Get ready to spend a lot on treats! You're going to need them if you do it this way.

Put him on a long leash, when you call him give him a treat, (keep treats in your pocket) and LOTS of praise. Dogs love to please you. Work with him often this way.Never sold him when you call him. If you must scold, you walk uo to him.
