I have never had to write a sympathy card for a loss of a pet or a loved one for that matter so I am at a loss on what I should write in the card.
Please help!
Thank you.

I should clear it up, the dog died giving birth to 4 puppies not my friend.

Just say something like "It's never easy to lose a friend." Meaning her dog was her friend. Or "heaven is a little brighter now", just talk from your heart.

Even something as simple as "I'm sorry for your loss" can be a great comfort to someone who has just lost a pet. We just lost one of ours three weeks ago and receiving the sympathy cards from our dog-loving friends was probably one of the most healing acts of kindness we received. Write from your heart. Your friend will appreciate that you are thinking of her in her time of loss.

That's terrible, however it does happen which is why only professionals should breed dogs. Here's a great thing you could write though.

Dogs Who've Shared our Lives
"They will not go quietly,
the dogs who've shared our lives.
In subtle ways they let us know
their spirit still survives.
Old habits still make us think
we hear a barking at the door.
Or step back when we drop
a tasty morsel on the floor.
Our feet still go around the place
the food dish used to be,
And, sometimes, coming home at night,
we miss them terribly.
And although time may bring new friends
and a new food dish to fill,
That one place in our hearts
belongs to them...
and always will."
"Sometimes it helps just to know someone cares...and I do."

Here's another one:

The Gift of a Pet
A pets love is one of God's greatest gifts
Always there for you
Their love never lifts.
A pet is a friend to treasure and love,
A gift from the heavens,
A gift from above.
When you look into your pet's trusting eyes,
Something is there
That no one can disguise.
It's a look of complete love and something to admire,
It makes your heart melt
And sets your soul afire.
When the day comes for you and him to part,
Your pet's soul is still with you,
He is still in your heart.
And at the Bridge he does what he used to,
Running, playing, jumping
And waiting for you.
And when you do enter heaven forever,
You find your still loving pet
And cross the Rainbow Bridge together.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

When I first read that it sounded like your mate gave birth to a dog.
Seriously though just write the same as you would for a person.
It was a living creature.

"Im so sorry to hear of your loss and Im thinking of you at this sad time.May he/she always be with you in your heart and memories"

I've never heard of a sympathy card for a dead pet. It seems a waste of time to me.

something will ultimately fade and die out, and there had better be something better to take its place..
