i'd tell him that, that is personal info that u don't care to volunteer to him because it's ur business and no one elses..
or laugh and say " oh how blunt of u, but i can't volunteer that type of info to u"...
and then return the question to him then ask him why he wants to know.. ask him how is what u make affecting him...

The most common reason couples fight is their issues with money. I was in the military for five years and over that time I noticed a lot of my married friends on allowances while on deployment. This always seemed very low(between $100-$200 every 2 weeks) and would cause the couple to argue. eight out of ten times the man worked while the woman stayed home. Now that I'm out of the military I have a very good paying job and I look for women who also make a good living. I personally wouldn't ask them what they make a year without volunteering what I make first and, still I wouldn't get into that conversation until after a couple dates and I felt some real chemistry. He may be a "golddigger" or he may be very blunt. I suggest going out with him once or twice before coming to any conclusions about his character.
