It all depends on your intake as well.
To lose weight, you need to expend more calories than you take in. Every 3500 calories = 1 pound.
Don't forget to count in the calories you burn just by being conscious, or your base metabolism.

That is a GREAT combo! As long as the bike/treadmill/elliptical are being done quickly enough that a conversation would be difficult because you are breathing hard, those are excellent for burning fat. Try upping the bike/treadmill to 40 minutes though.
Lifting weights will strengthen and tone the muscles so that when the extra fat is gone you will look great.
Don't depend too much upon the scale...as you lift weights you may gain a few pounds...but overall you will be losing inches and inches.
Keep it up, eat decent stuff, everything in moderation...and you will be REALLY happy with the results.

I completely disagree with BoM. Exercising even 7 days a week is not too much. Lift 2 or 3 times, do bike or elliptical or treadmill 2 or 3 times, and maybe swim or run or something the other days. It is a total and complete fallacy that working out 7 days a week is bad. Just don't do 7 days a week of identical exercise, that's all. But yes, 7 days a week is absolutely ok!

You'll probably be over doing it. I'm no expert but I know a little about this. The first thing you want to do is figure out what you're going for. If you want to just drop as much weight as possible as quickly as possible then I'd cut your calories and stick to the cardio. Its also dangerous if you go to fast and eat too little. If you start with the weights you'll want to eat more (as you should) and while you may get slimmer you'll probably gain weight. This is actually a good thing as the more muscle you have on your body the more active your metabolism is and the more fat you'll burn in the long run. I would suggest putting together an actual schedule. Maybe lift 2 days a week, do cardio 2 or 3 days a week, and rest the other days. You definitely need to give yourself a chance to rest or you won't see the results of your hard work. And most importantly, stay dedicated, but take your time and take it easy. You can definitely read up on all of this stuff online... Good luck!

Fat starts to burn off after keeping your heart rate in the target range for 20 minutes. If you are using the elliptical machine for 45 minutes and/or biking for 30 minutes pretty vigorously - you should certainly lose body fat. Lifting weights will build muscles which are more dense and technically heavier than the same volume of fat but building muscle tissue helps weight loss as well. Having more muscle mass will increase your metabolism.

That should be enough - but on the elliptical and bike you need to have resistance or else it's just wasted time. I usually do around 8-10 resistance (for 1/2 hr) and walk on treadmill (1.5 incline at 3.5) for about half an hour. You'll lose weight.
Also, you should try pilates - it strengthens your muscles without bulking you up.

thats actually perfect, at least 30 mins of cardio is needed to start the fat burning process and alternating weight lifting days allows your muscles to heal in between, which is how you build muscle.
Sounds like you're doing great!

i don't think you should worry about losing weight because muscle weighs more than fat. instead work on staying in shape. go jogging for a half an hour everyday or something. i stay in shape by playing soccer, playing chase with my doggies, and playing games with the rest of my family.
