After extensive searching and many questions the same as yours on the net, I found this answer:-

In some ways microwaves are like batteries and therefore generate voltages within the microwave oven. When you put metal in a microwave oven the metal can act as a wire "short circuiting" the microwaves. This results in large currents flowing though the metal potentially causing a fire. [By the way, not all metal is forbidden in a microwave, just most. There are exceptions.]

Microwaves in a microwave oven are specifically tuned to be absorbed by water and fat. This is why the food gets hot much faster than the plate it is sitting on. The plate only gets hot because the food sitting on it gets hot and then the heat conducts to the plate.

i made a mistake and put a hamburger wrapper(that was part foil) in the microwave well the sparks flew.. literally sparks going to the foil and stuff.. it was cool but can ruin your microwave..

try it for a few seconds then turn off your microwave so you don't ruin it
