I'd sue to expel the Boy Scouts of America from using public areas to hold their meetings.

A million bucks doesn't buy much anymore. I would use the money supplement what I already do as my contribution to charity. I offer matching grants to youth groups. These groups have to apply for the grants and have to meet certain guidelines to qualify. They also have to earn a specified amount through there own efforts. For example, a basketball team raising money to go to the state championships raises $250 at a car wash, I would match that with another $250. But if that same team just got the $250 from some other sponsor, I would not match it. That way the youth groups would get additional help and still have an incentive to earn their own way.

I would help with childcare and help the homeless (I recently attended a conference to end homelessness and do you know that 80% of homeless people who get some kind of assistance are never homeless again?) get jobs and places to live. I would also improve schools by giving teachers raises and give any money that I may have left (I doubt there would be any but anyway) to domestic violence shelters.

Start a large community center for kids bigger and better than the YMCA or Salvation Army boys and girls club. Don’t charge so much so kids of all ages and incomes can come. Have a community outreach program like a food pantry and such, basically all the help organizational things combined into 1 big place. One that helps with budgeting classes and many different educational things that help improve on everyday stuff like smart shopping and avoid even starting to get in debt. Have it to where college students can get volunteer hours for their resumes and help tutor kids. But still do the proper background checks and if there is money left over make a large play ground that has one major rule (no gangs or gang stuff allowed within 100 yards on the place.)
If I couldn't do that I would check every home to see who needs what (clothes, food, house weather ready, home school parents supplies to help, home budget helpers, if they are ones that live unclean. send in a housecleaning teacher (such a thing really) if someone needed help with paperwork they couldn't fill out without help get that help. depending on time of year outdoor yard care and clean up if needed. check on local area play grounds and clean it up or improve on the equipment.
I think like this because I have seen it all. I have wished I could do all this for years. And if you know all the short cuts to save the money that makes it even better.
For instants different volunteer issues like using college students for many things that can help their own careers later, even high school kids needing something for their college applications to help. Check out thrift stores or ask for donations for equipment for kids to have fun such as board games and outside toys like balls and such. Books to not be destroyed for the kids to read, as long as it’s checked to be safe for kids. Have only certain age kids allowed at certain times. (To help reduce fights) have evening 3 hour long (the limit) babysitter time for parents who just want a break and can’t afford a regular babysitter. (Local senior girl scouts can earn their babysitting badge that way or childcare college students volunteer hours and experience) all this would even give retired women an activity to help kids. I know teachers forced into retirement that miss helping kids. Some become foster kid moms. You see you can help your community in ways people don’t realize. Why do I know this? I have seen it happen on small bases, in the military, where families had to improvise and think of things for kids to do that are safe. To stretch the dollars in a church, or just for a low-income family to enjoy things without hurting the pocket.

Provide grants and scholarships to help families who want to homeschool or send their special needs kids to private school but can't afford the expenses involved.
