Be careful, because water can drop his sodium level and that can be VERY dangerous. You really should discuss this with your DOC. If you have a PPO maybe make an appt. to see a Pediatric Gastroenterologist. I found mine through Children's Hospital in Washington,DC. Also, my First and third born babies had issues with constipation, due to the fact they were allergic to the formula. My oldest was breastfed until 4mos. and after that he experienced constipation because he was alllergic to the soy formula. My second was born 36 wks and 5 days and had a minor constipation issue. The pediatrician instructed me to give him "Baby Lax" when he seemed to be uncomfortable. I only had to give it to him a few times and he was fine. Now, with my third he has a milk and soy allergy and is on a formula called Neocate. The allergist and/Gastro both said that since he was allergic to the formula he was on at birth, it caused his intestines to swell and that's why he gets constipated. I'm not sure if your son will have the same issues or not, that's why it's best to take him to the doctor's office. It's also possible this may just be his routine. Some baby's only pass their bowls every few days, but if she is very irritable and seems to be uncomfortable, page your ped. and ask them what you should do. Not to sound like a hypocrite, but sometimes you might have to get a second medical opinion or follow your own "mommy/daddy" instinct and ask about the baby lax. You can buy it from CVS. I wish you all the best and Good Luck!

Well, first thing is first you need to consult with the Doctor. But, A baby laxative is a suppository that you will have to insert in the rectum. And with in 24hrs the baby will be fine they also have baby enemas that are liquid that you can buy at any cvs or Walgreen's its like a fleet its easier to use than the other. But if that doesn't work the next step is the Doctors office after 36hrs if nothing has changed and if the baby loose his or hers appetite so just just keep an eye out for those signs if the baby does not respond to the enema.

First try taking the temperature rectally - it'll often stimulate them to go. Or go to the pharmacy and get glycerine suppositories. They'll be HUGE, so break off a chunk and use that. That's the quick fix.
For long term - you can give one ounce of prune juice (or grape or apple or cherry, or pear, but we find prune works the best) mixed with one ounce of water for every month of your child's up to twice a day. (In other words, your baby can have up to 4 ounces of juice with water once or twice a day) Start with an ounce or two once a day because you want him to get most of his nutrition from breastmilk or forumula - this is just an add on, and increase it as needed.
DO NOT give a huge amount of juice - it'll fill his tummy up and he won't get what he needs nutirtionally.
If you've begun to give solids, you can use some fruit - but watch out not to give too much because that'll just compound the issue.

The thing that I do, and that my mom did with all five of her kids was to add about a teaspoon of dark Karo syrup to their bottle once a day. I have a 13 week old (breastfed) that will go 5-6 days between BM's if I don't give him a little every other day in a bottle. It works great for me.

My goddaughter that had that problem, I gave her a suppository, for infants/babies .. You can buy them at a drug store and if you can't find it just ask the pharmacist. They really do work.. all you do is cut the suppository in half and pinch of a little insert in the rectum andhold the butt cheeks and within a few minutes she will be releived. If she is drinking juice you could give her some apple juice as well.

Fruits, liquids can help. There are also infant-sized glycerin suppositories. However...
Definitely consult a doctor. If the kid is seriously plugged up and you keep pumping fruit into him, you could have a bad result.
If it's only been a few days, don't worry too much. Some kids can go nearly a week before pooping.
Consult a doctor.

Prune juice just a little in the formula... after checking with your doctor first of course! It could be anything from a serious condition to a high Iron content in the formula you're using or even in your breast milk if you are still talking pre-nates??? Always check with your ped first!
Gerber sells it (prune juice) specifically for that reason (Because I can't see anyone drinking it on purpose.)

I used to give my son a little bit of Kyro Syrup in a bottle with water. The brown one and you only but a squirt in there. An old school thing. Also sometime a warm bath would bring it on. Rolling the legs upwards to his stomach. The last resort was warm water and soap in the rectum which.
Good luck that was never fun!!!

My daughter suffered from a condition that caused her to suffer badly for the first year of her life, her specialist recommended lots and lots of boiled water with a little prune juice added if needed. Also, rubbing their tummy in circular movements can help ease pain/wind but there is a method to this baby massage and I can't remember what way you're meant to rub - I'd google it to find out tho.
Good luck!
