It just depends upon their paradigm that they are looking through...I have noticed that staunchly proud people hate me, while the meek and kind people really love me....

Love is played out. Fear.

The people I used to supervise FEARED me, with good reason (g).
Not too many people love me; I can be a major b***h at times. (Give me chocolate, though, and no one gets hurt.)
I'd rather be respected, given a choice. (And I'd prefer to offer people that free choice, FWIW, and to earn their respect.)

But you're asking this in a R&S forum....assuming it applies to "if I were a Deity, which would I prefer?"
I'd rather have people love me. I don't *want* them to "be good" because they're afraid of My Eternal Wrath. I'd want them to "be good" because it's more practical/profitable, in the long run, to cooperate with each other.
If I have to whack the living daylights out of someone in order to get their attention, I don't deserve at all. If you need brute force or coercion to "maintain control", you never HAD control in the first place.

I would prefer love over fear. Be aware that fear can also reflect respect; not cowardly looking to.

I'd rather have people fear me if I based my Yahoo! Answers questions on questions that Chazz Palminteri's character was posed in the film "A Bronx Tale," which was a terrible movie except for the part where he drove his Caddy (I think it was) in reverse down a one-way street.

Love is positive. Fear is negative. I choose positive.

Many years ago I was considered pretty tough. I was a bouncer in a bar, hung out with tough people and had a concealed weapon permit (I carried). Sure people didn't mess with me but it was pretty lonely.

I've also watched people who were very popular. That does not appeal to me either. I really enjoy solitude and find it an essential part of my life.

So neither really appeals to me but if I had to choose one... I'd pick loved.

Love, even though my Y!A info. says something different at the moment.

I'm known as a very nice person where I live, and people like me, I like that better than having them all be scared of me.
