Not all, but some Christians are just as your subject posted and like all beliefs. The extremes will always be recognized as the norm. There have been many great Christians and there have been many selfish. This is the way it is with all beliefs whether Atheist, Muslims, or Christians.

Interesting and yet a bit sad. MLK was a Christian and a devout one at that. So much that he believed that ALL Christians would be on his side when he protested. He wrote in the Birmingham jail to a friend how he was shocked to find that Christian churches were all against him. To him this wasn't an injustice so much to black people, but an injustice to man and that we are all the same in Gods eyes. So he was a great man of his time, and he was Christian, but in his goal for freedom and equality, many Christians who were against him. It goes to show that people can be very hipocritical.

Christians are not exempt from being ignorant or limited in their knowledge. The problem with many Christians is that they think that somehow their religion validates their myopic view of any topic. So, if you take an ignorant bigot and give him religion, he is still an ignorant bigot but perhaps he might find verses in the Bible that tend to back up his bigoted views and when he opens his mouth, Christianity gets a bad name. Any religion has less than desirable human elements which tend to give it a bad name. Unfortunately, people tend to remember the bad in anything in life rather than the good. For example, if you were traveling down I-75 and saw a horrible wreck one day and then saw somebody helping someone else change their tires another day, you would more than likely associate I-75 with the wreck, rather than the good Samaritan. It´s the same for Christians...people remember us for all the wrecks and not for any of the good Samaritans.

Unfortunately, they are both.
So youve listed a few scientists who were Christian. Have you ever seen the list of those that were not Christians??? Its about ten times longer.
The Wright brothers spent their life savings fighting in court against another man who invented the airplane FIRST! He was French, they were American - and thus they won. BUt, seems the other guy did actually fly before they did....
Galileo was killed by the Church for stating that the earth was round...... (so much for the "support and patronage of the Church...")And, according to your beleifs, GHandi, who was more prolific than MLKing, is burning in hell....

The only "True" Christians are humble people with a great deal of LOVE for their GOD and fellow human beings. These people follow the TEACHINGS of Jesus without reservation for scientific views. Even the GREATEST of human minds cannot explain away the existence of a GOD. This is why SCIENTIST and other GREAT minds believe in GOD period.
Why do these people who disagree with the question posed to us on this Forum continually use "Long Winded" replies quoted from here and there to make their point...slickybou40 why don't you keep it short and to the point by using your own mind and not providing long winded "slick" references to the bible and other sources. If you did as I'm asking you maybe we could have room for many more viewpoints on this forum. In case you must know very few of us have the time or the inclination to read all this. Or are you maybe a member of the school of thought that you can 'win your point' by providing so much info that no one will bother to check your sources out or fall asleep trying to do so?
I think it's time we limited the amount of words in replies to our questions...see my question next.

Good message.
It never ceases to amaze me how secularists always try to set up this "religion vs. science" debate, when the two concepts have nothing to fear from each other.
In fact, without the support and patronage of the Catholic Church over the centuries, science and learning never would have progressed to where it is today.
God blessed us with the gift of intellect, and He wants us to use it in order to learn more about the world that He created. Science is a very noble -- and Christian -- pursuit.

Mostly, none of the above. However many are misguided because today's Christian "doctrine" is so far removed from what Jesus actually taught.
See this blog entry on the Trinity for example: http://articulator.mindsay.com/?date=2006-08-26
or this one on the antichrist: http://articulator.mindsay.com/?date=2006-08-29
These show the doctrine isn't even based on the Bible, much less on what Jesus taught!

A bit of both. I will note that the folks listed were not fundamentalists by any stretch of the imagination.
"Why called intolerant bigots when the message of the Gospel is love?"
Because the message of the Gospel is not love: it is obedience. "You are either with me or against me". Sound familiar?

Both. There are a bunch of small minded people who hide behind their religion, attempting to use it to justify their predjudice. There are also a bunch of intelligent Christians who try to actually emulate Christ and follow his teachings. It's the former group that makes the church look bad.

Those who slander Christians are actually going against God as of course the Bible is their source. 'Every man be a liar, but God is true'. Just like today the disciples took criticism even as they performed miracles because the flesh wars against the Spirit. There were Gentiles & Jews who did have an ear & believed too as is today, so it's not a complete waste of effort.

everyone is born without the conception of supernatural beings. society and weak-minded people are afraid of the unknown namely death. This fear makes christians believe in god and an afterlife because they do not grasp the idea of how permanent death really is. So they are simple minded, yes.
