Contrary to what most people think, he communicates to us thru His Word, the Bible. It was provided so that we can gain an accurate understanding of who He is, what he stands for, what he has done, and what he will do in the future. In addition to that, it has moral principles and experiences of those who either chose to follow His ways, or not, and those examples serve to help us in our lives and how to approach matters and live our lives. He also "speaks" to us by His blessings. All good things comes from Him, the Bible says. So we know that if we are blessed to have something that we probably asked Him for, or that he decided to give us, he "speaks" a word of approval and love for us by allowing us to be blessed in certain ways.
If you're hearing voices, sorry, that's not God. Although he used to speak to his prophets and other faithful ones in pre-Christian times, he no longer has to do that because, again, like I said, we have the Bible, they did not, we have examples to learn from, they did not, so there is no need for us to be spoken directly to by Him, because alas His "WORD" is already provided for us. :)

We have a built-in awareness of the spiritual dimension. Some people are so totally focused on this life (the physical dimension) that the awareness of spiritual things is almost totally dormant.
Another problem is calibration. Without the Holy Spirit of God revealing truth to our spirit, we can be misled by spirits other than God's spirit.
If you are not born from above, go to God in sincere prayer and lay hold upon the heavenly gift of grace by your faith. You are not indwelt by God's Holy Spirit by receiving grace by faith, you have to ask for it. Once you're annointed with God's Holy Spirit, ask that God would reveal to you the True Word of God, and the powers of the age to come.
WARNING: Once you understand the True Word of God, and the powers of the age to come, never ever defect from the faith because at that point you qualify as someone who can never be renewed unto repentence if you commit that one wilful sin of consciously aligning with Satan against God.

I needed a good question to kick over 1000 points, this looks like it.
First off, do you realize that better than 50% of human to human communication is non-verbal? Would you assume that God would communicate with us thru words?
God speaks to me thru the world he created for me. He speaks to me by allowing me to see the beauty of the wind in an oak tree, of the perfect curve of a woman's breast, in the smile of a baby. He lets me hear it in music and feel it in my soul.
He also lets me choose whether to look or listen. I can close my heart and deny his presence or simply open my mind and experience the beauty and glory.

My tale is longer than "Bible" but it is evenible that its not my memory. Anyway my knowledge of God is more complicated I can comprehend so I try to stick to some answers that are certain, I can remember and almost fully understand. To talk to God you must firstly understand Who He realy is."Bible" is a great clue of Gods truth but remember it was written by people so dont be so easy to take whole informatin as His message. Human language is like human - perfect life creation - but compared to God... I believe you can imagine the SIZE of diffrence. Compare Gods wisdom to "Bible" book - is it posible to close His wisdom and knowledge in that small litle one book covered by simple , not- perfect human words? What about other believers works? Maybe they are also mistaken but truth can be hold even there. We just must divine good from evil like God allow us long ago. Words are too simple and too dificult to use them like Gods language. Its more paranormal and natural than pure way we talk. Understand how many times is written that God is everything you healthy understand as good. Holy Spirit is the Gods WISDOM. Its a long journay, full of traps, evil wrong teachers, mistakes, hard devotions, dificult decisions, weak moments... to find God in yourself, see Him, feel Him, join Him, live with Him, walk His paths, understand His massage, became at least a little more like Him - powerfull of His Wsdom and able to bravely fight for better world here and Heaven in the After Lands.
Mrok (Gloom) defeated by God, now on His side, devoting life for His Mssage and Redemption...

God talks to you, do you listen? Most people are unaware of how to listen to the wisdom that is given to them. We think of ourselves as separate from that which gave us life. That spark which gives you life, your soul, is part of God that was given to you so that you might live. God is a part of you and therefore speaks with feelings and experiences not words.
Have you ever done anything that you later regretted? Something that made you have a little less respect for yourself? What about something that caused you pain? How about something that made you feel better about yourself, made you feel like a better person? Why do you think you felt that way? We call them life lessons, well what is God if not life? Life (GOD) will show you what how to be happy you have only to pay attention.
Love, joy, peace, compassion, wisdom, enlightenment and our relationship with God all come from within us. It is when we search outside ourselves for things and people to provide these for us that we separate ourselves from our creator. If you look externally for the gifts God offers then you find the false fleeting shadows of them. Loneliness, frustration, anger, false pride, resentment, hopelessness, apathy and a sense of restlessness are all you will find looking outside yourself and not inside to God. If you would like a test to tell how healthy your relationship with God is, just ask yourself to define life. If your definition is happy with occasional times of sorrow then you are on the path. If it is frustrating, hopeless or hostile with fleeting moments of happiness then you need to do some serious soul searching.
We have all heard God helps those that help themselves, now I will tell you what that means. Take responsibility for your life, not control. God has made this marvelous universe with rules that show you exactly what you need to know. It is your responsibility to listen and understand the truth of your experiences. God will show you how to live a joyous life you just have to listen. That is faith in God, trusting that if you do the things that make you someone you can love and respect, no matter what others say, you will live a life of peace and joy. Ultimately the choice is yours, will you have faith enough to listen to God or will you stubbornly continue to do the things that cause you pain and blame it on everyone else including God?

God doesn't "literally" speak to you. He speaks to you through miracles, random acts of kindness, and sometimes just the beauty of all the natural things He created.

How do we know G-d wrote the bible or that the people who said it came from him/her were telling the truth though.
If any of us did the same we would be committed.
Personally I communicate with G-d telepathically through guardian angels.
Scoff all you like lol.
