My religion history is a bit rusty but I think the first "acknowledged" religion was establlshed in Babylon. A guy named Zoroaster founded the earliest religion based on revealed scripture. He lived (an estimate) around 1200 B.C. As for religions before that, I could only guess pagan rituals or atheism. Some archeological digs suggest shamanism and others might argue that the anciet greeks and romans established religions (Grecco-Roman Mythology). Ancient Egyptians worshiped Ra (the sun god) and Annubis (god of the underworld). They even regarded the Pharoah as a decendant of the gods. So really it is really hard to tell what religion came first... mainly because recorded human history were taken a bit late and most text were either destroyed or hidden throught centuries.

Seek the Greeks to find out when religion was formed. It was their belief in a higher power that seemed to begin the whole fascination with religion.

Though religion was probably formed way before there even existed a word for it. Cavemen used to worship fire, and before that they worshipped caves. Etc.

Evidence of religion goes back a very long time, much longer than any written documents. The first religions were probably around at least hundreds of thousands of years ago. No one knows exactly what they were like.

If, by religion, you mean something organized, then the answer gets quite complicated as archaeologists are unearthing ancient cultures all the time that change our notions of the "earliest" this or that. What is commonly agreed upon, if your definition of religion is somewhat broader, is that the first and most common "religion" or spiritual practice is shamanism.

Religion is a belief in a higher power or a god. Since Adam and Eve witnessed first hand the power of God, they were the first believers and therefore, the first religion.
