First of all you cannot wash dreads everyday in the beginning. They will never hold the product that is required to help them lock. Washing should be once every 2 weeks max.
Second you need to cover your head with a silk scarf to sleep. This minimizes frizzing. Go down to your local beauty supply store and get some dreadlock spray. This sanitizes and keeps it smelling fresh in between washings.
You never said what your ethnicity was. This will determine how you should care for your locks. Caucasian hair generally takes allot longer to lock upwards to a year.
Hope this helps.

Your hair will not lock if you wash it daily. Keep twisting the stray hairs and use a spray for locks or braids. Protect your hair from frizzies by sleeping on a silk pillow case or use a scarf. It all depends on your hair type, but these are the basics.

Can we call them "Locks, please"?
Dreadlocks get their name from Jamaican tradition. Those with 'natty' locks in their hair were to be dreaded, or feared. I have read from the psychology/sociology community that we should not use the term as a synonym or generic for "Locks", because our hair is not "dreadful". I am not locked, but I try keep our images and subconcious as uplifting as possible. I am not on a soapbox, so try to keep the "combat" to a minimum, but you can't wash daily in the infancy of the locking process.

Get some stockings (panty hose) for your dreads when you sleep. My husband used mine for his dreads. I put his dreads in and they stayed great. I also have been a cosmetologist for 12 years. The site below rocks. and has live chat, pics, products, and much more. Good luck!

I don't know but the two words "neat & dreads" don't sound good. Bye
