Check the local vet clinics, to see if any of them can find the ID# in their records. Let them know the dog is lost, and you are just trying to find the owner.

If you decide to put up "Found Dog" flyers, remember to not include a photo or any distinctive markings on the dog, not even the collar color. That way any potential owners will have to give you a descripton and/or photo of the dog, to prove that the dog really belongs to them, and they aren't just trying to claim it as their own.

if you have the tag number you should have the vet clinic where the tag was issued on the tag as well. that vet clinic has a record of who the dog belongs too. if the vet clinic has been worn off you might want to try calling the local vets and seeing if they have it on record. this might take some time but will be worth it in the long run! Good luck in finding the dogs owners i am sure they miss the dog!

Howdy.

In Pennsylvania, the rabies tag has the name of the county it was issued in. You could try contacting the county health department.
Have you contacted all of the local veterinarian's offices? They keep a record of rabies innoculations and tags issued and a record of the owners.

Thank you for taking care of this temporarily lost dog and for caring enough to make sure it gets back home.

Bless you.

Good luck and I hope this helps you and the dog.

The Vet Clinic that issued the tag should be identified on it...they have to keep extensive records of rabies vaccinations...they should be able to identify the dog by the number.

It is important to understand that the rabies tag you get from your vet is not a license. When you license your dog, you receive a separate license tag and that is the one the Animal Control can track.
This is going to take some work on your part.
Try calling local vets or the following:
911-Pets Lost Pet Service Chicago: (312) 890-4911
Petfinders New York: (800) 666-LOST or (800) 666-5678
Pet Find Inc., Oregon: (800) AID-A-PET

doesn't the tag have the namme of the vet clinic on it?? Mine do, so I assume they all do. If so, the clinic by law keeps all records of vaccinations.

Call around to all the clinics in your town and ask them what color their rabies tags are. Then you can narrow it down to the clinic by matching the tag color with the clinic that gives out that color of rabies tags, and they can then locate the owners by the tag #.

Best of Luck ! }}}

If you have the rabies tag and the number call the animal clinic listed on the tag number. All vet clinics keep records of rabies tag numbers that they give

If the name of the animal clinic on it you can call that clinic and tell them that you found this person dog and please can they call them and give them your number. But you can also call the animal shelter or ASPCA in your area and tell them about the id and they should be able to contact the person down and let them know that you have the dog. And they will give your number or address to them so they can come get your dog. No place can give you out numbers of the person they have to do it for you kind of a rule for people that dog anything with vets and shelters.

There should be a phone number on the tag for the vet clinic that gave the dog the shot, call them and tell that you found a dog with that taqg and tell the number and they should be able to tell you who owns the dog, and how to get ahold of them.
