Okay, i have made shredded pork in the crock pot before but this time i want to try a pot raos and i don't know how to make it. I need a recipe that requires a crock pot, and do i need to add water or fluid to keep it from getting dry? Any advice would be great as I hope to impress my boyfriend.

Triple Onion Slow Cooker Pot Roast
* sirloin tip roast or lean chuck, about 3 pounds
* salt and pepper
* 1 can (10 1/2 ounces) condensed French onion soup
* 1/4 teaspoon basil
* 1 jar (12 to 16 ounces) small white onions, drained, or use frozen
* 1/4 cup chopped green onions or 1 to 2 tablespoons fresh snipped chives
* fresh chopped parsley or chives for garnish, optional

PREPARATION:
Put pot roast and French onion soup in slow cooker. Cover and cook on LOW for 6 hours, or HIGH for 3 hours. Sprinkle with basil and add the small white onions and green onions or chives. Cover and cook on LOW for 3 to 6 hours longer, or another 2 to 3 hours on HIGH.Arrange sliced beef on a platter with the small white onions, and drizzle some of the juices over meat. Sprinkle with more chives or some chopped parsley, if desired.

Crock pot roast is awesome! And yes, you'll need some liquid - about 12 ounces for a 2 or 2.5 pound roast. Beer is best, though beef broth would also be good, and I've even used Dr Pepper successfully in the past.

Definitely put the carrots and onions at the bottom of the pot, then the liquid, then the meat. If you add potatoes, put them in last - if you put them on the bottom, they'll absorb too much liquid and turn to mush. Carrots are tougher; they can take it. And season the meat before it goes in the pot. Even a packet of onion soup mix is good for that.

I do this by eye, but I can get my 6 year old picky eater to eat it. Take the pot roast and season liberally with salt and pepper. Then brown it quickly in a sautee pan with a little olive oil. You want the heat to be really high. Then I put it in the crock pot with 1 large sliced onion, a few stalks of sliced celery, 2 - 3 cloves of diced garlic, a small bag of baby carrots. I top this with 1 c. of red wine and cover the pot roast with stock. I guess beef would be best, but I can't tell the difference when I use chicken honestly. Then I pop in 1 bay leaf and a sprig of fresh thyme. Let this cook on low for about 6 hours. Then I add about 2 tbsp. of S & P and a few cubed potatoes. Let this cook for about another 2 hours.

first , i would advise to buy the crock pot cooking bags by reynolds. they make cleanup a snap. some people brown a roast first b 4 placing in crock pot not necessary. just place the roast, some bite sized chopped celery carrots onion & any vegie you like corn on cob is good & some potatoes. salt & pepper & if you want, 1 whole bay leaf that you remove after cooking. about 1-1/2cups of water will help make a nice sauce & a dash of savory. chopped tomatoes are also good. It usually takes about 5-6 hours

One of my favourites.
Brown the roast on all sides.
Put the roast in the crock pot and add about a half bottle of wine and enough tomato sauce (pick one with the type of spices and herbs that you like) to cover.
Add mushrooms, chopped celery, and onions (whole small onions if you like).
Slow cook for a few hours or until you are satisfied with how it is done.

Get a size roast that will fit, small red potatoes, 1 medium onion, and baby carrots. 1 package of dry hidden valley ranch dressing mix, 1 package of dry good seasons italian dressing mix, 1 package of dry brown gravy mix. put the roast in, and put the potatoes and baby carrots around it and the cut up onion. Mix all the seasoning packets with 1 cup of water and pour all over it. Add more water if you would like. This is sooooooo good! I have given this recipe out on here many times and everyone loves it.

Crock Pot Roast

4 pound roast (whatever is on sale, I've used sirloin, chuck, & london broil)
4 large potatoes, peeled and cut into one inch pieces
4 large carrots, peeled and cut into one inch pieces
2 medium onions, quartered
1 can of beef broth
2 cloves of garlic

Arrange vegtables on bottom of crock pot, put roast on top (make small slits in roast and insert slivers of garlic), pour beef broth over roast and then sprinkle with salt and pepper. Cook on low approximately 6-7 hours.
