I was recently up at Big Bear, and on the way there I noticed tons of camping areas along Rt. 38 which winds up through Barton Flats, Angelus Oaks, etc. I know there is fishing at Big Bear proper, but I wouldn't be surprised to find some other fishing holes along the way. I hadn't been up there in 30+ years and had forgotten how amazing and beautiful the area is.

Otherwise I would try to get a place at the beach. I really like the state park in Carlsbad which is right on the beach, but there are plenty of other spots between OC and San Diego. Of course, it will be really busy, but if you feel adventurous you can always try to get a spot right when they release the no-show sites.

Good luck!

Why do you have chose to stay away from crowds? Are you agoraphobic? maybe you may schedule an appointment with a therapist. Southern California is the main populated section interior the country. No extensive open areas right here, like the country the place you look from. take excitement on your holiday weekend!
