It depends on your relationship with your dog. My Lhasa Apso is tiny and the most placid dog you'll ever meet but she certainly shown no hesitation in grabbing a man's ankle when he tried to snatch my bag. My bobtail was in the car, he jumped out of the window and ran after the man. I've never trained either of them to protect me but they did.

I asked this same question just the other day about my dog, who is a long haired German Shepherd. I think that they have an inner sense that tells them that the people they love are in danger and that would "kick in" the protect mode. I've often thought that my dog would let the burgler in, show them where the jewels were, then give them a kiss good-bye! Lets hope I'm wrong!

Yes all four of my dogs are very friendly but if anybody tries to mess my family or one of our animals,my dogs will go after the them( the bad guys or girls). My Border Collie Dexter even saved my life a couple of times once I was helping my friend move cattle and I fell off of my horse right in front of a huge bull. The bull started to charge at me and tried to trample me and dexter grabed him by the nose and threw him on the ground. the other time i was ice fishing with my dad and i feel into threw the i ce and he pulled me out.

My dog has got to be one of the nicest dog's out there. and I know for a fact that he would defend me or any one in my family. for example i was out playing soccer with the dog and some one drove up asking if it was some persons house. well of course it i owned the house so i new that person wasn't their. and the guy tried getting out of his car. It was in odd feeling. and i wasn't sure why he was getting out of his car. but my dog stood in from of me and the guy with his Mohawk up and growling. the closer the man tried getting to me the louder my dog was growling! the man turned around and got back in to his car and took off with out saying another word. Now to let you all now my dog is 78 lbs and is a border collie blue healer mix. but this was the first and last time he ever did some thing like this. so my guess is my dog new something wasn't right. and was their to protect me. so to your answer yes even i perfectly overly niece dog would protect it's owner.

i was walking my dog, i was 11 at the time. an older girl told me yo move off of the sidewalk. i told her there was enough room for the both of us. she picked up a heavy stick and came towards me. my leashed dog was 7 at the time(collie shepherd mix). i had never seen my dog show any aggression until then. she stood in front of me and growled. the girl stepped forward and my dog snarled at the older girl. she came forward again and my dog snapped at her.i pulled my dog back, so the older girl wouldn't get bit. i got my dog when she was 6-8 weeks old. my dog was there fore me. that was the first and last time i was ever in danger when she was with me.she was always a very friendly dog. she passed away @ 16.5 years of age.

it depends on what kind of dog you own. for example a german shepard no matter how friendly it is would most likely try to protect u but if u own a dog that doesn't have that protective instinct then it wouldn't do anything.

it tought i was going to hurt mommy who was standing there then leaned to push the traffic light button to get it to change and she stumbled a tad and i caught her..
that tiny dog went RAWRF! ARF ARF! jumped way high up in the air that leash was a tight as a rubber band when that dog was jumping up and trying to bite me... RAWF!
man i was like omg omg! woah! hold the mayo! ouch!
mommy was there (she called herself that so she's mommy) oh no that's ok tweekles that's a good doggie he's not a bad man he was trying to help mommy she lost her balance.. aww that's ok good tweekles.
that was so funny and the dog was pink with a little bow on it's head.. with a pink leash with rhinestones on it.
man that dog nearly gave me the whatnot.
so never judge a dog on how cutesy they are.. they may have your head for lunch... or a snack.

Most would. My dogs are small and friendly but when my friends and I would joke around or me and my mom would and hit each other playfully they would even growl and bark at her warning her to leave me alone!

Yes, in a dire situation I think they most likely would, if they love their owners yes. It's what they do, they're part of a pack, and you're the pack leader. In the wild, they would generally fight for the leader. Hope this helps!
