How can I keep a box of Kleenex out without my kitten getting into it and destroying the tissues? I already turn it upside down, but she figures out how to turn it over...

Is there any place in your entire house that she cannot get to? If there is, put them there. Otherwise, you may have to do what I did. Depending on how old the cat is, I started disciplining mine at 6 months, every time she done something I didn't want her doing, I'd go over while she was doing it and tap her behind (right at the base of her tail) and say NO! Eventually she got the idea.

Also, reverse psychology works, much like on kids. Our cat liked to get on the TV where I had my expensive and treasured breakables. I finally began putting her up there myself and holding her there about twice a day. Finally she stopped going up there because she then got the idea of, "Well, she's letting me up there, this isn't fun anymore" Try all of those. Like, hold her up to the Kleenex, take one of her feet and shred a couple yourself with her feet about twice a day and see if she doesn't stop eventually. It totally works, just like on kids.

What a clever little kitten! Open a book or something heavy and put it over the top of the kleenex box. Can you sacrifice one box for her, cats just love to tear the stuff out of the box? She won't be doing that forever.

Although I do have an older cat who if she gets enclosed in the bathroom at night will shred up a whole box.

Wow, talk about a blast from the past.

MANY years ago, I had a cat that would not only torture Kleenex issues, the way your cat is doing, but would EAT them, too. I would see "evidence" in the litter pan, which was quite a sight to behold, I can tell you.

We tried everything to break her of the habit and finally the only thing that worked was switching brands of facial tissue! There was something particulary appealing about KLEENEX that Scotties or any other brand of tissue didn't have and it stopped her odd behavior. Maybe it was because they popped up or something. That was the only cat I've ever had that did that.

Maybe that would work for you--switch brands of tissues.

Hope this helps.
Give the tissue destroyer a hug for me, please.

Buy Puffs. Then your cat can't shred the Kleenex.

Seriously, try putting a shoe box lid over the top.

Put a plastic bottle of shampoo on top of the box.

Sounds silly, but we had a similar problem with one of our cats and the toilet paper. We tried putting it in the other way. We tried standing it upright on the holder. Time after time we would find the entire roll unraveled. Oh such FUN!
Then we put a bottle of shampoo on it. Every time she tried to attack it, the bottle would fall down and scare her away.

A can of coins would have the same (maybe even better) effect. The cat will not associate it with negative discipline from you and it worked like a charm.

And yes, folks, closing the door seems like such a simple remedy, but sometimes you, or company, forgets.

AUGH! I feel your pain. My cat used to do that to al paper products. Her favorite was newspaper. Grrrr.....

Well, what finally worked was getting a spray bottle and spraying her everytime she started in on it. Which was hard because I had to keep a constant eye on her. IN the middle of the night, during guests over time, always, soon as she started i sprayed her until she stopped. She eventually learned that if she shredded she got wet....which she didnt like. Good luck with your little tiger.

Hey they are much smarter than we give them credit for. I doubt you get him to stop, they love to play. It's their nature. My older cat use to get hold of the toliet paper and it would be from the bathroom to the living room, so I started tucking the end into the cardboard center. They can go anywhere they want so hiding it is no good. The older they get though they do give up on some things. Good Luck.

Cat's like to scratch. Give it a scratch post, a cardboard box and anything else paper that you want destroyed. The cat will love you for it.
