first of all take plenty of warm clothes! new york is very cold in february. also, take comfortable shoes. you should try to see and do things in a organized way!
for example do the following:
go to ST. Patrick's Cathedral, rockefeller center to watch the ice skaters and have lunch or hot chocolate, a walk through the plaza hotel, a carriage ride through central park, a visit to tiffany's, a visit to sak's 5th avenue, carnegie hall for a show and maybe lunch at the carnegie deli. this save time and you do a lot of things!
here is my list:
1. rockefeller center ***
2. carnegie hall
3. st. patricks cathedral ***
4. tiffany's
5. macy's
6. sak's
7. a carriage ride through central park ***
8. the empire state building ***
9. a play or two-order your tickets way in advance-if your hotel has a concierge ask what are the best plays to see ***
10. take in a knicks basketball game
11. take in a new york rangers hockey game
12. ride down wall street and by the U.N. just to see it-in a cab
13. visit where the twin towers was
14. eat a hot god at papaya palace or nathan's
15. have lunch at Katz deli ***
16. go to little italy-there is a street made up almost entirely of italian bakery's- ferrara's is the most famous ***
17. try to eat at il malino's-expensive but great italian food-celebrity's dine here-hard to get in-make a resveration several months in advance ***
18. visit chinatown
19. go to greenwich village for a diiferent setting ***
20. drive by cab down time square-not real safe at night-if you go to a play try to catch a cab close to the theatre-don't be scared just cautious-lots of policeman are around. ***
21. go to sparks steakhouse-expensive but great.
22. go to the palm- expensive but great ***
23. go to the french restaurant "bouley"
24. go to carmine's italian restaurant
25. go to angelo's italian restaurant in little italy ***
26. go to one if by land, two if by sea restaurant-romantic and expensive but wonderful ***
27. go to giambelli's italian restaurant close to madison square garden
28. go to the jewelry row just to look
29. go to P.J. Clark's on 3rd avenue-not the one in Macy's-sports figures and celebrity's frequent here at night-after 9:30 p.m.-10:00 p.m.food is good, dress is casual, and not expensive! ***
30. go to Joe Allen's after the play. make a reservation in the bar area because celebrity's dine here after the plays. reasonable price!***
31. Elaine's for after the play or later-celebrity's dine here***
if you have done everything i listed then go to the statue of liberty, the united nations tour, grants tomb, the tour at wall street and visit the dow. these eat up a lot of time so unless you really want to do these then save them for last or do them next time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
32. go to serendipity's for icecream and desserts!***
have a great time-purchase a fodor's travel book to new york city at the bookstore-very informative and helpful!
there is so much to do and see. there are so many great restaurants to choose from.
again, it is my favorite city in all of the world!
have a very very good time!

- Broadway. Can't pass up a Broadway show when in NYC.
- Central Park. Take a stroll, take a ride in a horse-and-buggy, eat at Tavern on the Green, Visit Strawberry Fields, go ice-skating
- The Met. One of my favorite museums. Or, you can also visit the Museum of Natural History (I don't know if you consider museums as "fun")
- Have drinks at the Plaza, one of the quintessential hotels in NYC.
- Shopping on 5th Av, but be prepared for the "sticker shock"
- Shopping at SOHO (South of Houston), lots of smaller, cheaper stores
- Have a Grace Papaya hot dog
- Take a cab ride uptown/downtown just for the experience (you'll know what a white-knuckle ride is after this)
- Take the train all over, such as Brooklyn (another fun hang-out)
- Chelsea Piers, lots of things to do (bowling, restaurants, driving range, shops, etc)
- Catch some late-night shows (David Letterman, Conan O'Brien)
- Catch a Knicks game (in February)
- Go to the MTV studio
- Go to the Today show set in the morning
Touristy stuff:
- Empire State Building
- Statue of Liberty
- 9/11 memorial
- NYSE/Wall Street

Tons of touristy things to do, but I would totally recommend seeing a broadway show. You can go to "Tickets Tickets" in the middle of time square and get the best deal on tickets. Of course even though the weather will be cold in February, take warm clothes so that you can walk through Central Park. It's the best way to see New York and the people.

Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building.
Make sure that wherever you go including restaurants and fast food places and malls to find the HOURS they are open. It is not a 24 hrs city like most people say. When I went (from Oregon) we were shocked that places weren't open when we thought they would be open. Just thought you'd like to know to oplay your trip accordingly.

Walk through 42nd street right from 8th avenue towards GrandCentral Terminal. Lots of interesting sights on every block expecially if you are a first time visitor.

Whatever you do, dress warm. NYC can be cold and windy in February, especially if you're walking anywhere. Dress appropriately.
