You are asking the BEST WAY to get rid of an ABSCESSED TOOTH and then you are saying that your dental insurance will not come till next month...So, if I am not wrong, you want a best cure without going to the dentist,temporarily...
Unfortunately there is not best way to get rid of an abscessed tooth without going to a dentist...
My advise to you is to go to the dentist soon...because an ABSCESS is basically an accumulation of pus. Thus by now infection from the tooth might have gone to the gums surrounding that tooth(Hence forming an abscess)..
If you're tooth might have been infected but would have been without an abscess it would only require Root Canal Treatment...
but if your tooth is infected(and is not severly cavitated) and an abscess has been formed then the most ideal treatment would be to get the ABSCESS DRAINED(Usually abscesses are drained by surgical intervention. However the treatment is not painful.A small incision is made on abscess and pus drained. The tooth is treated with Root canal tr. and anitbiotic is given to prevent further infection.
but having said that in some cases if the tooth is extremely cavitated(carious) and the abscess is big, then, the dentist may chose to extract it with the abscess. It depends on the degree of damage of the particular tooth..
Bottomline is that get an appointment of a dentist and get your treatment started,so,that your tooth can be properly saved...
If you cannot get an appointment for a dentist, the maximum you can do is to get PRESCRIBED ANTIBIOTICS from a physician but even then it does not cure the problem,it only prevents further infection....BEST OF LUCK FOR THE TREATMENT...(And dont worry everything is gonna be fine..abscess of teeth are relatively common conditions and are cured properly without any problem)

Well, I used to work as a dental assistant so I've seen my share of abcessed teeth.... An abcess occurs when the nerve within the tooth dies, in the process you feel pain and can have swelling usually on the gum above the tooth, around the root area. The only good way to get rid of the pain is to get it taken care of at the dentist, becuase waiting can cause an infection to spread, causing even more problems. You might want to ask your dentist is there is anyway he can write you a script for an anti-biotic just to clear up the infection, this way you will be out of pain, and it will give you a little more time to put off the actual root-canal procedure. If that isn't an option you can buy over the counter gells that will only numb the pain, they do nothing to clear up the abcess.

I just went through the same situation with the abcess & the insurance last month. This is what I did for comfort measures while I was waiting.Heating pad or warm compress, Ambesol, & salt water (warm also) rinses. Also I recommend going to the Emergency Room. They will start you on antibiotics, which will get the abcess under control until you can get to the Dentist, and give you something for the pain. Good luck! Hope this helps....

See your dentist... your life is more important. A dental abcess is not to played with. Any infection left unattended can be very serious. Check out Ludwigs Angina...it is a severe infection that while rare can occur and can kill you....and is caused often by a dental abscess Is it worth waiting for insurance? You should at the least go visit a dentist for some antibiotics.
By the way, I have seen one case of Ludwigs Angina due to a tooth infection in school...I don't know what eventually happened but most of the oral surgeons did not think the person would live...I know this is extreme and rare but lightning can strike

An abcessed tooth is nothing to wait around for, the infection can travel into your bloodstream, the most serious consequence would be fatal. Antibiotics are given in a mass dose couple of hours before extracting the tooth, then afterwards for a few days. Do not delay, go to a dental college, university they can do it cheaper.

You can get some antibiotics and hope it makes the infection go away. You can hold warm compresses to the area where the abcess is, a "pimple" will come to the surface and drain. If you don't want the tooth, you can have it pulled, usually for less than a hundred dollars.

There are only two things you can do an abscessed tooth: Root canal or have it removed. Find a dentist and make an appointment for them to look at this tooth to verify that it is abscessed. Explain to them that you don't have insurance right now, but you will next month. They can prescribe you an antibiotic and that will kill off the infection for awhile. Go ahead and get the treatment they recommend scheduled.

find a local dental school in your yellow pages and call them. Tell them your situation and they probably have a class they can use you for. You get your tooth drained..they get a presentation...and also rubbing aspirin on the infected tooth helps with the pain..along with taking aspirin
