Thats a very good point, the only approved contraception according to the Vatican is natural family planning,or only having sex on those days that a woman is not ovulating.Another issue or debate of interest is,contraception for those with health challenges and etc.But the point u brought up is excellent, most people are not following this principle.

Most Catholics are practical people working under the pressures of the modern world, family planning is important to many so that a family can be raised at the best time.
If that means using contraceptives and contrary to what the Church says then they do so, because catholics also know that the Church excommunicated Galileo for saying the Earth went around the Sun, but Galileo was right and the Church was wrong.
So it is important not just to believe in the many good things that the church has to offer, but look to your own heart and conscience for answers.

It is unfortunate but most people give more respect & honor to the rules at thier health club then they do their reilgion.
The rules on birth control have not been changed by the Vatican to the suit modern lifestyles of family planning... So, many catholics ignore the rule along with others that just don't work out for them...
This of course makes anyone who is a practicing cathoic breaking the rules... a hypocrite.
The catholic religion only approves one method of birth control.
The rythem method... Any and all other forms of birth control are concidered a sin against the church.
If a catholic commits a sin, they must confess their sin to a priest before they can recieve any other sactraments....
(such as the sacraments of communion, marrage, ect...)
However.... if the catholic plans on continuing the sin, they can't ask for forgiveness in the sacrament of pennance....
There fore if the catholic is choosing to live in sin against the church... they may recieve no sacraments & only attend mass to pray.
When attending an accational mass with family I have always enjoyed sitting in the pews & watching the hyprocrictes line up for the sacrament of communion....
Humm... almost all of the congragtion lines up in a drove...but, statistics would have 75% of those adults using a bith control... 40-50% divorsed... 20% (or more) cheating on a spouse....blah, blah, blah...
Dose the catholic church create sinners?
Or are humans just prone to sin?

Most people, not just Catholics, spend the vast majority of their time NOT having sex. I haven't ever met anybody that has sex 23 out of 24 hours, seven days a week.
Also, Catholics apparently can control their urges to defecate on the sidewalk...so I suppose that they can intelligently control their sexual urges as well.
Finally, a woman can get pregnant ONLY a few days out of each month...regardless if a contraceptive is used or not.
I think that your question arises from the misguided notion that sexual intercourse is solely a recreational function.

Why would single mothers be a problem for the Catholic Church if they didn't practice pre-marital sex? Catholics Cheat, they have to to get by in the real world. Those who don't break from scripture tend to both have large families and never have sex.

I married a guy who was raised Catholic. Both his parents came from huge families and he has an uncle younger than him as a result. Go forth and multiply, I guess. The "ew" factor is a bit much for me and I try not to think about it. Catholics believe in large families.

For all the kiddies talking about "pulling out" that's also frowned upon. Sex has one purpose to catholics, and that's to procreate. It must have the potential to create life, meaning no condoms and no hormonal or natural birth control methods. I came from a catholic family, the middle of 5 kids. There were families in my school that had 7, 8 or 9 kids. However, I did stumble across a box of condoms in my parents' room when I was younger. This, of course, was before my brother was born--OOPS!
But, in this day and age, you know that very few IF ANY catholics abide by this outdated practice. This and other fallacies drove me away from the church. It's rigid (no pun intended) and ritualistic.
Thanks for the thumbs down.

Actually, studies over a number of decades show that Catholic women use the pill at about the same rate as non-Catholic women.
This is the reason I am an ex-Catholic. The priests have their own sacrament, but in their arrogance, they tried to take control of the sacrament that belongs to married people.
I do believe abortion is wrong. And, for the smart alecks, I do support all babies I made.
But, birth control? Get a life. if a married couple believes they should have no more children, and use the pill or condoms, that is their right to decide under the sacrament of matrimony.

a combination of both
most catholics do have families, but those that dont often do not have sex.
Pulling out" is not an accepted form of birth control, if you put it in it stays in until the act is done.
Or they are cafeteria catholics, who think its not a sin. But thats for them and God.

Natural family planning is very effective.
Not all Catholics follow the Church all the time.
Catholics are human, and are not perfect!
Peace!
PS. THERE ARE VERY FEW CATHOLIC PEDOPHILES!!!!
There are little league coaches, teachers, preachers, aunts and uncles that are pedophiles as well.
