I have been burgled twice in the past - One time was worse and they took some jewellery of mine, which was more sentimental than valuable. I kept my jewellery all together in a box.
The problem is that now i hide what jewellery i have in many different places and forget where it is - so that when i go out, i am frustrated because i cant remember where such-and -such is. This is driving me nuts and my forgetfullnesss gets worse as i age. So - do i have all my jewellery in one place again where i can look at and enjoy it and choose with ease what i want to wear and suffer the consequences of perhaps being burgled again and making the thiefs life easy by it all being in one place for him/her to choose from? Nothing i have is partucularly valuable but most is irreplacable because of the history and sentiment attached.
Any thoughts?

Keep basically meaningless stuff in your jewelry box in plain site. Keep the rest in a lock box in one hiding place. That way, if someone breaks in again, they'll likely take the box off your dresser and not go looking for a secret lock box but don't move it around. Just pick one good spot.

Further to the above comments (which are all good ideas), send yourself and e-mail with what bits of jewellery you have stored where. That way, you can look at it when ever you like and remind yourself where stuff is (with pictures of the jewellery if need be), and the theives won't be able to get their hands on it if they steal your computer (should you be so unlucky again - fingers crossed you won't), because the information's stored electronically elsewhere. And even if someone hacks into your account, they won't know where you live.

Hope that helps.

I quite agree with you. I have a cartier watch that I do not wear when I go out, in case I get mugged. Instead, I wear a cheap old casio. What is the point of buying expensive things in this day and age when you can't enjoy them?

Bolt a small safe in your closet. They only cost abut 40 dollars and keep it locked. Then you wont have to worry. Make sure it is one that can be bolted down tho. Otherwise they will just take the safe too.

You need a small safe. One you can put in a closet and bolt to the floor. Even if a burglar finds it, they cant open it or take it with them.

But if I were you, I would consider moving to somewhere with less crime.

small security/fire safe from costco located in a cupboard or other hidden destination preferably secured to a wall or something solid.

its more enjoyable to look at it time and time again than lose it on display in one foul crime.

why don't you invest in a small safe that you can secure underneath your floorboards or inside a cupboard? that way it is safe and will not tempt the burglars and you won't lose any bits,

Stash the heirlooms and only leave out what you use.
