My parents become american citizens this year. What's the procedure they should follow to claim U.S. residence immigration status for a son living abroad under another nationality?

depends on how old you are and if you are married.
If you are married and under 21, or unmarried at any age they can file for lawful permanent residency by filing the I-130, Petition for Alien Relative.
Read the link I have as my source.... it is the most useful.... if they are in the US, they can file it at the uscis, if they are with you aboard, they can go to the embassy.... it can take a year or two....
Good luck.... contact me if you have any other questions

file form I-130, if son is over age 21 he will be under the 1st preference category and could take about 5-7 years to actually become a resident alien, if married son he will be 3rd preference and process takes about the same amount of time, but his spouse and children under age 21 would be included. That is to say only one petition will be filed his whole family. I-130 filing fee is $190.00. If the son is from China, India, Mexico or Philippines the processing time may be longer.

Different procedures...depending on whether the son is under 18 or over 18...quite complicated either way but much more difficult if the son is over 18...contact immigration dept. for more details and be prepared for a long and difficult application process.

Apply for the residency visa through the American Embassy in whatever country you are in. They can give you all the details you need. Your parents would be contacted after you apply.
