Personally, I don't think any opinion is worthy of respect just because somebody holds it.

Should I perhaps respect Adolf Hitler's opinion that all Jews deserved to be killed?

Or Pol Pot's opinion that anyone wearing glasses was a bourgeois traitor to communism and must be executed?

If not why should I respect a Jew, Christian or Muslim's opinion that the vast majority of people on this planet deserve to burn in hell for eternity?

Personally, I actually think that's worse. The only way it isn't is if the Jew / Christian / Muslim doesn't REALLY believe in hell.

Sorry.

I forgot to add, the reason for asking is being told constantly that I shouldn't question Christians / Muslims etc because I should respect their opinions.

You should respect everyone's RIGHT to have an opinion. That is not the same as respecting their opinion. As to the value of a particular opinion, you've answered your own question.

For some ideas, like the Hitler thing you mentioned, it is acceptable to disrespect others' opinions. However, some opinions aren't so clear-cut. For example, let's say you disagree with me about whether or not abortion should be legal. Both sides of the issue have merit and there is no obvious answer legally or morally. Therefore, there would be no excuse for you to not show respect for my opinion. However, if I were to say something stupid like, "I think that slavery was good and it should be reinstituted," you have every right to call me a moron.

Remember, there's a huge differenc between tolerance and acceptance.

Honestly I can not go with respecting everyone's opinion. Some opinions may upset or offend you. To me that does not mean that I have to respect it at all. Im entitled to my feelings and beliefs. Its not like everyone will always respect my opinion.

Opinions are like butt holes, everyone has one therefore it depends on who's giving them. Anyone that gives their opinions to me I respect but it goes in one ear and out the other especially if they force their opinions upon me ignorantly.

To "respect" an opinion is not necessarily to agree with it. It can mean you agree to disagree. However, I agree that some opinions are pernicious, mainly the ones that lead to harm to others.

You should only respect your own opinion.

The opinions of others need to be reasonable to be valued.

Go in peace.

anyone who tells me i am 'bad' and unrighteous before god based on their bible is one thing, but to view me as 'bad' because i dont share that believe, crosses a sort of line, if you know what i mean, and i see christians who think all the christians are righteous and all the non christians are unrighteous,

you dont have to believe in god to see what that is about, and to disrespect it
