There is a touching song about a mother's wish for her children called If I could - It was originally recorded by Nancy Wilson and a remake was done by Regina Belle- the song is such that it could be read as a poem. I've heard it read as a poem at a wedding and it was just as nice. Part of the lyrics are: If I could I would try to shield your innocence from time - but the part of life I gave you isn't mine - I'll watch you grow- so I can let you go- If I could, I'd help you make it through the hungry years - but I know I could never cry your tears - but I would if I could.
