The value of the van is 675.00 and I only had liability coverage. Do I have to file an insurance claim. No other vehicles were involved and no injuries.

The law in each state is different. In CA the law states that all losses w/ damages exceeding $750 must be reported.
If nobody was hurt, then I would not report it. It will be a point on your son's record for 3yrs and the insurance won't pay out any money since you didn't have physical damage coverage on the van anyway.
Hope this helps.

No you do not have to file a claim. Just let it go. You are lucky it was only worth $675. Our daughter has had 4 accidents in the last year, two her fault two not, two cars totaled and our insurance went up $1600 and it will probably go up more when all is said and done. She is paying for the increased rate on it though. I just hope this is the end of it.

As far as I know, there's no requirement to file an insurance claim. However, if you found a reason to file (such as injuries to your son, which would still be covered regardless of the value of the van) there is a limited time to do so.

The only reason I can think of for turning a claim in for this instance is if he damaged someone elses property. Like a pole or something.

Otherwise, no, no reason to turn anything in.

No, you don't. That's one exception. You don't have to file a claim if you have liability only and only your car was involved.

no, you don't ever HAVE to file an insurance claim for anything. Only reason would be if you're trying to use up your deductible or something.

No, as long as there wasn't property damage or a claim against you, just write it off as experience and get another vehicle.
