Anyone evr vacation in The Dominican Republic?

What area of the country were you in? Was is safe felling? We are planning to go in March with a large group of family and there will be a few kids under 8 years old

Been to Dom Rep 3 times and I like it so much I'm trying to figure out how to live there. It's beautiful (ocean, mountains, flowers), its inexpensive (if you get beyond the tourist stuff) and even the tourist $$ is much less than most Caribbean countries and the people are kind, helpful and happy. It's the place to be.It's a large country compared to most Caribbean islands. Punta Cana on the East Coast is beautiful but the most expensive. The southern coast is more commercialized because it's close to the capital, Santo Domingo. The Northern coast is my choice because its not as touristy but still has the creature comforts I desire and is still reasonable. You'll be so happy you went there for a vacation. Do your homework on the Internet so you know what you want to do and where to do it. I'm going back as soon as I can.

We went to Punta Cana and loved it. Like many Carib countires you will feel safe on your resort, but unsafe off of it. That doesnt mean you cant travel off of your resort, just be aware of your surroundings and dont do anything risky. We actually did have a maid steal 20 dollars out of our room. The hotel said their was no way to prove this, but did take 20.00 off the bill.. which was nice. That can happen almost anywhere though.. but from what I hear it is common down there.
The beachs were very nice, and water clearn and warm. We had great weather, and from what I hear, that part of the domincan gets alot less rain and storms then other areas.

All in all.. very nice.. just be smart and you should be fine. I plan to go back.
