You should have called the highway patrol right away, but the problem with that is the trucking company is going to say:
1) Why were you following that truck that close?
2) Why did you wait to report it
3) Another vehicle could have passed you and picked a rock up and hit your windshield
4) Prove our truck did it, how do we know you are not trying to scam us out of a new windshield.
Windshields are not cheap. I had a car pass me and pick up a rock with his tire and hit my windshield. For a 2005 Ford Excursion it was 750.00 installed. I also got the tag number, the Highway patrol told me they could do nothing, I could not prove it was that guy. I called my insurance company, they told me that by the time I paid the deductible it would be cheaper for me to go do it myself.
It sucks, but that's the way it went for me. I hope you have better luck or a better insurance company, if not I hope you have a cheaper windshield.
Good Luck from my experience you are going to need it.

highway patrol office is a good start. like that you can get a police report. since you have the plate number, they can run it and let you know where the truck came from.
second, call your insurance provider. most insurances do have coverage especially for front windshields. since you have a police report, your rates will not go up.
in the polcie report it will give you details on who's the truck belongs to. call their company or name and explain te situation to them calmly. you might be surprised and they treat you well.
if you dont see a result without a few days, get in touch with a lawyer (if you like) to see what rights you have under the law.

Go to your insurance company, tell them what happened and give them the information. I don't think it will help but they have a lot more power than you do. Most commercial trucks will have a sign on the back saying "Stay back X feet. Not responsible for broken windshields". After all....it is your word against the truck driver. Good luck. Pops

The Police will track down the owner. I am almost sure this is for your insurance to cover. There's no proof it came from that truck unless you stopped the truck got the pebble that hit your windshield and got a sample from his truck and called the cops to file a Police report at the time of accident.

if you did not get the name off the truck and you have the licnce number you can go to the Dmv and they will give you the owners name.. and you can contact the company they have insurance.. but believe me when i say it is hard to prove.. you may come out cheaper just fjixing it your self. call auto glass companys and get a quote they will even come to you and put the glass in for around 135.00 up your deductable is 50.00 and with gas being what it is you would be better off just paying out of pocket.. the company will only say you where driven too close. or the driver did not have a load been there done that....

dump trucks are notorious for haven fake license plates...drive around the truck ant get the I.C.C number, or Co. name and phone number... then call DOT, (Dept. of Transportation) and local Police....we have terrible problems with those dump truck in Miami, I had 2 windshields replaces last year....I called Stanley Class, they came to the job and I didn't have to take of from work...I never paid a penny...the trucking Co. paid for everything....

Your insurance company... That happened to me, the insurance company sent someone out to my house the next day, they fixed it in my driveway, and it didn't cost a cent. Most states have a 0 deductible for windshields. Good luck!

Hmm...did you happen to get the name on the side of the truck or anything? If not, I'd still call the police and make a report, can't hurt

Call police or highway patrol. As long as it came off the truck you should be able to get them to pay for it.

I would call the police and file a report so that, at the very least, your insurance company will have it if you decide to file a claim.
