11 soldiers killed over the last 3 days and 62 shot. Just 4 days ago the USA Government stated we are making progress and the insurgents are getting weak. But look what happened. The USA got a butt beating over the weekend and the shame is starting to grow.

The problem is not the number of soldiers getting shot. The rate of combat dead and wounded is remarkable compared to the other wars we've fought.

The problem is a media and folks like you who pound the drumbeat of doom and gloom without putting it in a proper context. All you have to do is look at the facts. Less dead and wounded rates than during most of our history. What would you have said during World War II or the Civil War?

The following show the percentages of combat dead/wounded based on total military population:

Revolution: 2% deaths, 3% wounded
War of 1812: <1% deaths, 2% wounded
Indian Wars: <1% deaths, no data available wounded
Mexican War: 2% deaths, 5% wounded
Civil War: 7% deaths, 13% wounded
Spanish American War: <1% deaths, <1% wounded
World War I: 1% deaths, 4% wounded
World War II: 2% deaths, 4% wounded
Korean War: <1% deaths, 2% wounded
Viet Nam War: 2% deaths, 5% wounded
Gulf War I: <1% deaths, <1% wounded
Gulf War II: <1% deaths, <1% wounded

Indeed, we have been very fortunate in our losses. And while it is bad whenever we lose even one service member to combat, we haven't been doing all that poorly in Iraq, as we compare it to other wars.

ERUDITE
You keep posting about shame. I really think you have something to be ashamed of. You wasted my dollars training you. I bet you barely made it past E-3 in your 6 years.

The insurgents are cowards, any one can hide a bomb and blow it up and kill innocent people. If anyone should have shame it should be them.

They are even going against the teachings of the Koran. But as we know, different sects of Islam read the Koran differently.

I served in two wars and I am fed up with the short attention span generation. WW 1 took four years and hundreds of thousands were killed and wounded. WW2 lasted four years for the US and even more were killed and wounded. Korea lasted three years and thousands were killed and wounded. Viet Nam lasted eight years and thousands were killed and wounded. Iraq has been going on for three years and guess what, thousands are going to be killed and wounded. What shame is growing? I cannot find anyone that is embarrassed by what we are trying to do there. I find people who disagree with the reason for invading the country, but no one has ever stated that they were ashamed of being there. I think propagandists like you, can have their opinion, but keep it to your self and don't make it seem like you speak with any authority for the majority.

What shame, if there is any its from those who also think that GOD should be taken out of our country and replaced with illegals and those who find our national anthem wrong, and those who feel we should not teach morals to our children or even discipline them and those who live in the tiny little bubbles call their life. Also a great big ditto to yes-its-me

This response is coming from Canada.

It is my opinion that shame is coming to the US over Iraq, because the rest of the world is seeing the REAL George W Bush for who he really is! We see him as a lying, vindictive, scheming, manipulative, and grossly misinforming war criminal who sought out revenge for his father's misgivings during his time in office.

George W. has been playing 'war games' with many innocent soldiers' lives. He doesn't seem to many that he really cares - NO - he's got a reputation to uphold.

Well America, in all my years of studying USA politics, I've never encountered such a mess. I believe to clean up this mess, you people really band together and IMPEACH this tragic fool, before all of your lives become endangered.

Your president - Bush - bare-faced LIED to the UN council about 'weapons of mass destruction', and even though the UN did not sanction his act, he sent in many many troops, just to watch them fight, and get slaughtered. Not even a week into the war, HE'S DECLARING VICTORY????? We don't even have to bring up the scandal of the many soldiers who were killed during FRIENDLY FIRES EXERCISE INCIDENTS (US were killing soldiers sent in to help) This is patrionism? How about USA, wake up and see your president for who he really is. Arrogant, bullying, and a like the people he's chasing (Sadaam, Bin Laden, and other terrorists) you're president has turned out to be a real handful. Can you stop him America, or is it too late?

Doesn't your country deserve better than this?

MICHAEL MOORE, who America mocked because of his theories about 9/11, and his visions are coming to life. Wake up America, now is not the time for shame - now it is a time for CHANGE.

Long live our neighbours to the south - Long live America!

Thanks

I have only three things to ask you. What country are you living in, What radio station are you listening to, and how many tv stations does your tv get? I haven't heard the word ''shame'' once. I think your head is screwed on backwards.

Who's ashamed? I think you're imagining things, that's all. It's okay, I imagine things all the time. Right now, I imagine a strange fish odor coming from my monitor. LOL- it'll go away in a minute, though.

Tough call.

Our boys and girls are doing a difficult job under extreme conditions, but they are doing their jobs like professionals.

No shame in that.
