The other night my mother and I went to our local "Witch Shop". The lady that runs the store is really cool. While we were in there she asked us to stand 3 broomsticks up right. We were both able to do it. It took my mom a little longer but I made mine stand up right away. Anyways I have no idea what the signifigance of this is. I'm pagan but my husbands not he's a christian and he thinks I'm crazy. But when I got home I got my own regular old house broom out and tried it again and I was able to get that one to stand up too and it stayed for a long time. Then we he tried to do it he could never get it to stand. So really I'm just wonder if anyone knows anything about this? And please I don't need any Christians on here to reply and try to " SAVE" me. I live in the Bible Belt and get enough of that already.

Thanks for all the great answers. I wasn't really looking for the answer of " You Must be the Choosen One". Really I was just wonder what the signifigance was behind her even asking me to do that. I'm sure there are plenty of people out there that can do it. I just find it amusing that my Husband thinks I'm strange with all my pagan beliefs and he couldn't balance the broom. As to the question of what path I pratice, I don't have a path right now. I'm really just a learning pagan. I lean more towards Wicca but thats probably just because there is more info out there about it then anything else.

I guess you could say I'm a practicing pagan (according to that definition on Wikipedia) but I'm not sure what a broom stick would have to do with anything except you ability to find the balancing point of something that doesn't balance easily. Perhaps you need to better define the paganism you are practicing. As an animist I use a broom for cleaning.

Ive never done this personally but i have been able to make toothpicks and other small items stand on end. Its really a test to see how awakened you are, with witches a broom has some significance and might be more powerful for you. congratulations on your achievements and on remaining strong in your beliefs despite all of the christian influence around you.

Dont rely on broomstick antics. To be a pagan or a witch or anything like that you have to belive in pagan deities, spirits, energy and the craft as a whole. Magic without belief = stage trickery. Look inside yourself and find out what you believe spritually first. You may have a great talent just waiting to hatch!

well my brother is a practicing pagan and he says that the broom is a sign of fertility and that it is a means for sweeping away old aspects of your life.he also says that the significance of the three is the maiden/mother/crone...he also says that he was a practicing pagan in the bible belt too and he is sending you all the positive energy. i was a practicing Wicca in the bible belt as well but i just don't do any of that anymore..good luck sweety...

So I am assuming that you made it stand with your mind. Well, the mind is very powerful. All that really is taking place is that you believe that you can do it therefore you can!! That is great will that you have. Keep it up. Oh and could you focus on the world becoming a beautiful place with peace all around! I think you would be a great contributor to this.

It is a matter of spiritual balance. Look inside your heart and you will find out what it is supposed to mean to you. I could give you a generic answer, but I have found that you can find meaning beyond what you are told if you just ask for the answers during ceremony, or during any quiet night of meditation and contemplation.

Just my opinion.

I've never heard of that and I've been pagan for 13 years. Which really doesn't mean much because I don't know everything. I am curious though. I would ask her (the shop keeper) directly.
