The thing is some people ask a question that has an answer and then others are really asking for an opinion or a point of view. I also think that what sort of mood you`re in can effect the way you answer.

It would be a good idea to have a totally separate answers section for people who only want light weight questions and answers together with lightweight jokes.
Many jokes and lightly asked questions are very good and produce some very good answers. Sorry if they are beyond your tolerance level !
I am sure that there are very many people on this site who consider lightweight questions and jokes to be a waste of this resource that clutters it up and slows it down. However, they have the intelligence to be tolerant and understanding of others!
Are you not just demonstrating your lightweight thinking by being intolerant of others? !
I consider that this is a serious answer to your seriously asked question. Sorry if you asked the question hoping for more lightweight replies!

Because sometimes it's impossible to know if the person asking is being serious or humorous. Some people can't read between the lines.

I was riding in a taxicab this morning and there was a female dispatcher on the two-way radio. She was dispatching the cabs to various addresses and the usual dispatch chatter was going on. Suddenly, the dispatcher asked? ... Michael Hunt, are you out there... Mike? Do you read me? ... Mike Hunt, Mike Hunt... Come in.... Come In... Come in Mike Hunt.
I don't know why this is so funny to me- it was just a cab ride.
I couldn't stop laughing. I think something shot out of my nose!

The intelectual agility of a small soap dish. The cranial developement of a wood pidgeon. These are mine, tey have been used by BBC gene pool slurry, but one can forgive their lack of intelect. The other day, some twate told me that I was using someone's expression. But I showed them my design and usage of my words, twenty years ago. Why do I need to defend my intelect so often on this site?????????????????

Because this kind of communication is missing the oral and physical cues that go with conversation such as tone of voice, facial expression etc. You don't know if someone is being sarcastic or serious.
And sometimes you do know they're being stupid but it gets to be so boring you decide to pretend to take it seriously--which also has its humour, it's called IRONY.

If you walked into a room full of 'real' people fact to face you'd get the same mixture of irony, humour, serious answers and downright stupidity. It's called life...(but not as we know it, Jim)

I can't see the point of people who just put 'no' to a question. What a waste of time and effort.
