Sad to say, but if you don't already know the answer to this question . . . you probably shouldn't be worrying about getting into a top ranked university.
I say this, not to be coy, but because the qualifications for getting into virtually any university are posted inside their respective "college catalog." You may have to dig through a lot of fine print, but it's usually in there. The same applies to the top universities -- except here, you'll need outstanding SAT scores (i.e., top 15%), great high school grade point averages and solid recommendations. Then again, if you didn't already know this, it might not do you any good; these qualifications take time to acquire and the best universities can usually distinguish those who can handle their curriculum from those who would probably be happier elsewhere.
If you're really interested in attending a top university, I'd take up that discussion with your high school guidance counselor (as early-on as possible). Believe me, it matters!

I would think it would be important to visit the school's websites of the schools you are interested in that will tell you what there qualififcations are every school is different. but being in the top of your class always helps and if your not try scoring really high on ACT/SAT scores and apply early! and get involved in honors or AP courses and a few clubs.

As each school has different requirements, I would highly recommend visiting their websites and if possible also doing a tour of their campuses.
Also important is your SAT score, grades in school and extra-curricular activities.
