Also does office XP works on linux if not please tell me and equivalent for linux. Please give the list of programs that does not work on linux. And which version of linux is best.

Last I checked Yahoo only had version 1 of messanger available for linux, but there is a messaging program called gaim that will let you use the yahoo messaging network.
The two main things I think you'll have to get use to is not being able to run most your windows programs, and depending witch verity of linux you choose, have to use the command line for some stuff. There are linux equivalents to most programs and if you really need to run your windows programs there is an emulator called wine. If you don't wish to use command line using either mandrake or suse linux.
Office XP, or any thing else microsoft will not work, but there is open office, a very nice free office suite.

There is a Yahoo Messenger for Linux. Office XP will not work on Linux, but OpenOffice (Linux) works very well. You might want to start with Ubuntu Linux.

if you go into the main website for each of those you will find out which work with linux and which dont.. also depending on the version of messenger it might or might not work

linux system and windows system are different...
but you can use messenger linux version, by downloading them at yahoo site...you will find which for windows and linux....

only some linux version have yahoo messager. but all has messanger tools that supports many like yahoo, rediff.
