Wasn't Jesus poor. Why don't you quit preaching and really follow your God by being like Mother Teresa for example.

Yup, the amount of Christians I know with big cars and massive houses is ridiculous. Lucky God is such a generous God, eh? Tell that to the starving people.

sienna,
Just FYI, your question is reeking with ignorance. You don't know the Bible.
"If you are a Christian that refers to the bible all the time, why aren't you giving all your money to the poor"
He never told me to give all my money to the poor. He told a rich merchant to do that, but He did not tell everybody to do that.

"Wasn't Jesus poor."
Where do you get that? I remember Jesse Jackson saying that, it's not true. Jesus had money and Judas kept it.

"Why don't you quit preaching and really follow your God by being like Mother Teresa for example."
Who else would be here to tell you that you are full of $#!t?

We are not all the same, dude. Christianity has all kinds of people that do all kinds of things. We are all not Mother Theresa's. In case the obvioty of that truth escaped you. Isn't that kind of obvious?

Jesus was probably middle class. He was presumably a carpenter or stone mason by trade, which would have made him in high demand for building houses or furniture in his day. There was a large middle class in Galilee during the time of the Romans.

It is true that the Bible says to give to the poor, and a lot of Christians do. It is a hasty generalization to say that Christians don't give to the poor. Some Christains don't give to the poor would be a more accurate statement.

There are many out there who do. I give, I am probably at poverty line, I know I am not rich. I make do with what I have. One example, I had little food in my own house and have given half away to someone else who had none. I give finacially when I can. Yes, Jesus was poor and yes Mother Theresa was a prime example, but who are you? You don't know the circumstance of others and yet you are accusing, you don't know if people do or do not give. If a person doesn't have money to tithe, works and services are also giving to the church, the body of Christ. I refer to the Bible all the time, for the Bible is Gods word and Gods word is truth! You speak what you do not know!

I help as many poor people as I can. You don't know what I'm doing.

"Mother" Teresa, on the other hand, tried to help people on earth but taught them away from the Bible. She's not my example or my authority; Jesus is. What did He say?

Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Why do you think I should only obey the parts of the Bible that you like, and not all of it?

I do refer to the Bible and it doesn't instruct me to be poor. And how do you know that I don't give a lot of money to the poor?? How much do you give??
God commands us to preach the Gospel.
God does not command us to follow mother Teresa. Jesus is our example, not Teresa and Jesus preached and healed the people as we are supposed to do.. That is why we know the Bible and you don't..

He preached more by example

ONE LIFE

He was born in a stable,

In an obscure village,

the child of a peasant woman,

From there He travelled

less than 200 miles.

He never wrote a book.

He never held an office.

He did none of the things one
usually associates with greatness.

He became a nomadic preacher,

Popular opinion turned against Him,

He was betrayed by a close friend,

And His other friends ran away.

He was unjustly condemned to death,

Crucified on a cross among common thieves,

On a hill overlooking the town dump,

And when dead, laid in a borrowed grave.

Nineteen centuries have come and gone,

Empires have risen and fallen,

Mighty armies have marched,

And powerful rulers have reigned.

Yet no one has affected men as much as HE,

HE is the central figure of the human race,

HE is the Messiah, THE SON OF GOD,

JESUS THE CHRIST!

I do in many ways to bad you have a grudge on this because Jesus has given more than you or Iwill ever give .
Bible verse is not my advice to you Look at your soul and then try this . go to a chruch that feels safe and walk in just sit there and try to stay in the moment Don''t think about how poor you are or rich someone is just listen to the place . Listen to your self thoughts and then make a judgement on me and my friends.
You may find you have forgotten something who knows
Mother Teresa was brave and gave her life to God every day I remeind myself of this and when I fall I try again.
Do I give my all to the poor I try because what I have is so much more

No spell check this time I typed form heart my questions to back
DID YOU TYPE THIS QUESTION FORM YOUR HEART or????

Jesus wasn't poor nor rich. He ask God for everything he needed just like Christians do and God answers. The poor people like yourself need to do the same thing. God doesn't give hand outs to the likes of you and others who won't pray and seek him daily.
You need to ask yourself if you even help those who are need or in poverty instead being judgmental against those who are. Don't generalize. Try Thinking the next time you ask a question.

"Quit preaching" would be a direct violation of what we're supposed to do if we are true Christians.

Jesus met those He encountered at their need. Their NEED. He didn't merely give them what they wanted. When you read YOUR Bible, does it say anywhere how He went around passing out tons of cash to people? The closest He got to that is in the 6th chapter of John -- He fed 5,000 of them one meal, and they wanted to make Him king for all the wrong reasons so He got Himself out of there quick!! Can I continue my answer by way of analogy? Does a two-year-old know what he needs? He knows what he wants! Would you, if you were babysitting a two-year-old for a few days, give him ice cream all the time because he kept wanting it? Give him his way all the time? No, if you love him and care about him in fact, you'll give him what YOU know he needs -- a good balanced diet, being kept clean, extra-close supervision, regular bedtimes, love, stimulate his learning drive, etc.

We think money will solve our problems. We focus on it because it kind-of rules our life! Money is it, huh? NO, it's not. What we (all, collectively; mankind in general) need is eternal life, and the way that that happens is; someone preaches the truth to 'em, they hear it, they believe it and are saved. The Bible is to be interpreted by its own rules, not by what we think the rules are. Many times its references to selling and buying, money, giving, substance, etc., are actually references to the true currency, the currency of heaven, the word of God.

To respectfully answer the other part of your question, why do I not just get impoverished monetarily and live like M. Teresa did when she was alive? Because the earth is a sin-cursed earth and there's no end to ratholes down which my money (or rather, the money that's been entrusted to me) can be thrown! And the Bible says that we are to live circumspectly and be good stewards of what we have physically. That includes our health, our sanity, our relationships, etc. I am not going to earn brownie points in order to gain entrance to heaven doing good works; it doesn't work that way. I can be more effective for God monetarily earning 40,000 dol's plus per year in the station in life that I have, and living in a fairly nice home, giving to gospel preaching ministry as able and living a life of integrity. M. Teresa's calling was hers, some people have had callings similar, my calling is a little like hers but not quite because I am a different person in a different setting with different exposures to how to live in the practical sense. The reference to selling all you have and giving to the poor in the Bible is exactly what I am talking about in the above para. -- "sell all I have" is sell all the hope I have in my own abilities to gain eternal life on my own merits. They're worthless. So I "sell" all of it. And give to the poor. The poor spiritually are those who need the Gospel. I have something to give because I have the true hope, that God has saved me not of my merits but rather by His grace. Giving it is the same as preaching -- sharing the good news that if you're still physically alive, there is hope for you that you too might be saved.

The book of Malachi states to give 10% and the New Testament states to give an offering. Mother Teresa did a wonderful thing, and that is what God called her to do. God gives us all gifts, hers to serve in the mission field. Others, to be pastors. Following Jesus is not giving up all possesions, it is having faith and accepting him as your Lord and Savior.
