It contains a very tiny dose of an hallucinogenic substance, not enough to wig her out but enough to make her feel silly. Nepeda cataria (common catnip) is a member of the mint family and you can grow it.
Make sure you keep it in a sock or stuffed toy, don't let her eat it, it will make her sick if she gets too much.

I have three cats - I have bought them catnip toys - strangely enough, all three of them go mad for one in particular - they salivate and roll over it and rub their faces - The particular toy they like was purchased a long time ago, but it was a very high quality one with the best catnip. I understand from the web that it is an asiatic herb - called Nepeta - chemical in the stem and that it is an aphrodesiac

Catnip for cats is very like X to a youngster. Catnip consists of the chemical nepetalactone, that triggers the reaction. it truly is a psycho-sexual drug for the cat besides. it truly is a member of the mint kinfolk, so your cat might act this way in the direction of something minty besides.

One of the chemicals in catnip mimics a cat's sex pheromones, which explains their increased state of happiness and bliss.
However, the effect doesn't work on every cat, and kittens are generally susceptible to its persuasions. Funny enough though, it seems tigers are affected in the extreme. Can you imagine a full grown beast pawing and purring like a kitten? Aww!

If you mean Catnip toys - no idea maybe it's mice and they like to play with them. I often toss the catnip in the air and my cat chases it where it lands and plays with it.

Some say that it has some kind of drug in it so they go crazy but others say that cats just enjoy playing with it.
