I mean, I'd rather just die and be the end. I have no clue what I want to do 5 minutes from now, let alone for eternity. I think that would be boring!!!

You, me and Isaac Asimov

"Although the time of death is approaching me, I am not afraid of dying and going to Hell or (what would be considerably worse) going to the popularized version of Heaven. I expect death to be nothingness and, for removing me from all possible fears of death, I am thankful to atheism."

-Isaac Asimov

No-one knows what happens after death. No-one has lived to tell. Sorry, that was bad. I've read several theories on the afterlife. Most agree that there is one. I've heard that is what you want the real world to be like if you could change it. No wars, no sickness, a perfect body, and all the knowledge you could ever hope to have. What would be your idea of a perfect life? Two-hour soaks in the tub without interruption? On a boat out on a lake? Camping and communing with nature? I have also heard that we are all assigned "jobs". Something we liked to do when alive. Maybe some were caretakers of the babies. Maybe some help others cross over. Maybe some watch over us left behind. I don't know what I'm going to do five minutes from now (just my luck, I'll die and be a housekeeper), but the afterlife sure has some interesting possibilities.

All I'm hoping for is the answer to about a thousand questions.
And I want to see what is way out there and maybe hang around looking at all the neat s*** that is out there.
And I would like to be a dolphin for a day or so, an eagle for a day or so, and go to Egypt to see the Pyramids, cause it don't look good for me getting over there anytime soon due to the world issues going on right now. Drats

I think that no afterlife is best, as you do. Probably all people would agree if they were capable of thinking deeply about such matters. Dad once told me I couldn't go to Heaven for doing something of which he disapproved. I retorted, "If such a place did really exist, I wouldn't want to go there. You see only two different Hells. Your Heaven is so bleak and grim that no one with good sense would want to go there." In Mark Twain's novel, Tom Sawyer tells his Aunt Polly that he doesn't want to sit on a cloud playing a harp forever. What else could one do without sinning? I agree with Tom. Heaven has no pleasure and is frightfully boring.

I agree with you. We live right now in a society where they always insert the question of eternal life or eternal freedom. When I die, I want it to be over and that is it. I think thinking too much about the future doesn't allow you to have quality of life in the present.

I hope you are not foolish enough to think that just because you don't want to experience eternity that you have the power to opt out of it altogether. You will experience it one way or the other, and it is only while you are living in "time" that you have the capacity to determine how you will spend your eternity. Once you are outside of time, and in eternity, your choice is fixed. This life is all about change and growth and hopefully you will have the desire to achieve perfection.

The universe is too vast and wide and God is alone will fill us with joy but I guess you have the freedom to choose but you rather die than live forever in totally happiness. You cannot even fathom it because you are using what you currently know about finite things to judge things that are infinite which is impossible. I sure do hope you would even try and see.

Oh come now, you don't believe? Not even a little? I know life is more than just this bit here on earth. Don't get me wrong, I am enjoying everyday the Lord gives me here. I am also aware that I'll never be truly home till I am with God.

Non-existence isn't an option. The choices are eternal life in heaven with God, where there are no more tears or sorrow; and eternal punishment in hell. Kind of a no-brainer, isn't it?

Yeah, reincarnation sounds cooler. At least there'd be something to DO for awhile. I wouldn't mind having another lifetime or 2. But eternity would get really boring.
