I'd like to smack the Christians who are saying that Gothic is the worship of things that are not Almighty God. /smacksmack Goth has nothing to do with worship at all. It's like if you saw someone who is an environmentalist and accused them of worshiping Mother Nature or Gaia just because they want to take care of the planet (which, incidentally, was commanded us by God, so Christians should be more environmental anyway!) There are Christian goths (the band Saviour Machine, and many of their fans, for example), there are secular goths, there are pagan goths. Goth and religion/lack of religion are both compatible. Did you ever think that maybe they dress in black as a symbol of mourning for people around them judging beautiful versus ugly? And they get insulted because they can see the beauty in things that society (including "modern Christianity") finds ugly? And they are freaks for this? Sounds to me like true goth is very compatible with Christianity. I almost wonder if Jesus was a goth of His time. After all, many people thought He was a freak...He saw the beauty in others...He had customs and actions that the people around Him did not understand or accept. Who says he always wore a white robe with a blue border? Could he have possibly worn black? Who knows...

I don't know, probably because they are ignorant. Goths are akward teenage girls and boys that have low self-esteem. It has nothing to do with satan or devil worshiping. They are socially inept so they form there own little hobbys and cliches that involve goth music, anime, and all that other dorky stuff. It is there way of rebelling against the 'mainstream' public that they don't fit into.
Okay that was a little harsh. I actually liked the goths when I was in school, they were the only ones that were interested in other things besides insipid mainstream stuff. They had more creative mind's and actually thought rather than go along with the public opinion. That is why I dated a anime guy I met in school for four years. Hopefully you will grow out of it, he never did which is why we broke up.

I think it traces back to them Satanist rock bands from the eighties...to those "christians" who cursed and reproached you goth guys and gals look much like them. I guess it also has something to do with their preconcieved notion that goth = rebellion = Satan or some sanction on what they percieve as cultural deviance (or just plain being different from everyone else).
If I am correct..."goth" is a sort of fashion statement and general outlook on life (at least from what i know). It isnt a religion and it technically has nothing to do with Satan either.
Anyone who judges and curses is not a true Christian, so ignore those fools and be who you want to be (so long as it dont involve blowing stuff up).

In ancient Jewish tradition Satan is simply an angel doing the work that God assigned to Satan to do.
The word Satan means challenger. With the idea of Satan challenging us, or tempting if you will. This description sees Satan as the angel who is the embodiment of man's challenges. This idea of Satan works closely with God as an integral part of God plan for us. His job is to make choosing good over evil enough of a challenge so that it becomes clear to us that there can be only one meaningful or logical choice.
Contrast this to Christianity, which sees Satan as God's opponent. In Jewish thought, the idea that there exists anything capable of setting itself up as God's opponent would be considered polytheistic or setting up the devil to be an equally powerful polarity to god or a demigod.
Oddly, proof for The Christian satan/devil mythology is supposedly found in the ancient Jewish texts that were borrowed to create the bible. One can’t help but wonder how Christians came up with such a fantastically different interpretation of Gods assistant Satan in their theology.
Other hints about Satan’s role in human relations can be seen if you look at the name Lucifer. It meaning in the original tongue translates as Light bearer or light bringer. Essentially the bringer of enlightenment. The temptations of the Satan idea bring all of us eventually into Gods light. Hardly the Evil entity of Christian mythology.

i hear the frustration and understand it completely
i have kinda what you would call unconventional looks and receive similar ignorant reactions
but...... because you choose to look, or present yourself in a way that is different to what is considered the norm i think you have to accept that people are going to have questions
i do not accept that people have prejudice or completely rigid opinions...... but i dont mind being asked questions (often the same ones each time!!!!! errrg!!).
maybe you should try to turn it round into a positive....... you have been given the gift of a moment with an otherwise ignorant and possibly prejudice person and have the power to change their mind.

People tend to categorize others. It is just too bad these people don't know the right categories or have the facts correct. I know goth has nothing to do with being a satanist - and I am old, so the rest of these people should know too.

What people don't realize is that if you are not with God and accpet His son Jesus as your savior, you already belong to the devil who is your father.
John 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
God says not to have any other Gods, and Gothic is the worship of someone other than the Almighty God. Gothic is satanic even if you try to say it's not, because it is not of the Almighty God.
Exodus 20:3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Exodus 23:13 And in all things that I have said unto you be circumspect: and make no mention of the name of other gods, neither let it be heard out of thy mouth.
Judges 10:13 Yet ye have forsaken me, and served other gods: wherefore I will deliver you no more.

Goth is a fad and you will outgrow it.
Seen any 30 year-old Goths lately?
Emo is a fad, too.
Hopefully you'll outgrow that.
But you are right in stating that people automatically assume you're a devil-worshipper if you have black fingernails.
It's wrong. They are afraid....that's all. Just be yourself!

she is known in her school for being the person to go to if you have worries .. as she is a great listener and a great friend
she doesnt discriminate against anyone and is involved in fair treatment for asylum seekers at the school
i love my daughter and am very proud of her .. and her and all of her goth friends are some of the best kids ive ever known
