All the answers were good and in addition please get counseling for the child. It will really help. When the child gets older the problems will get worse, oh yes indeed. Please intervene now. You will be glad you did and the behavior WILL change.

Well, are you consistant with your saying no? Do you give in and worry about the child liking you? You are the adult. You are boss. What you say goes whether they like it or not. It starts when they are little. Don't worry about being the childs friend. Be the childs parent. Spank the child if it is necessary to get their attention that you will NOT tolerate their behavior. If they are a teen, hey guess what, can we say grounded 100 %. No MTV ( which is garbage) No Nothing. Homework, chores, eat. To get respect an unruly child has to earn it. No rewards until child behaves. Reward for good behavior, but not bad. I hope this helps. By the way, the first time you say no, mean it and stick to it, and make them do what you say the first time , not the third or 4th time.

Ok, my guess is that you spoiled the kid and now you have to set up boundaries an rules. If they don't follow them they are punished. Take their TV and games out of their room so you can make them suffer. When I was a kid and I didn't behave I was actually spanked then grounded. Guess what it worked stop threatening the kid and follow through on your threats. That is the only way they will learn.

It's going to be hard to change that. Spoiling the child when he is very young is what causes them to be brats.

It depends on your relationship with the child, & it's age. Try watching Super Nanny, or Nanny 911. Those shows are full of great examples of child raising. I wish I had that information when we were raising ours. Watching those shows I have learned that kids need love, structure, consistancy, and predictable consequences to their actions.
