In regard to this question, theologians and materialists disagree. The theologians believe that Christ was born of the Holy Spirit, but the materialists think this is impossible and inadmissible, and that without doubt He had a human father.

I'm sure I don't know what a materialist is, but if you believe in God, whose existence you can't prove by the vaunted 'scientific method', then you can believe that Mary became pregnant by the power of God. There doesn't have to be a scientific explanation for matters of faith. How did Jesus turn water to wine? You either believe or you don't.

By the way, you also can't prove Darwin's theory of evolution via the scientific method either. It's still just a guess.

Why do scientists have such a hard time with having faith and accepting that miracles have occurred?

God the eternal Son became incarnate in Jesus Christ. Through Him all things were created, the character of God is revealed, the salvation of humanity is accomplished, and the world is judged. Forever truly God, He became also truly man, Jesus the Christ. He was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He lived and experienced temptation as a human being, but perfectly exemplified the righteousness and love of God. By His miracles He manifested God's power and was attested as God's promised Messiah. He suffered and died voluntarily on the cross for our sins and in our place, was raised from the dead, and ascended to minister in the heavenly sanctuary in our behalf. He will come again in glory for the final deliverance of His people and the restoration of all things. (John 1:1-3, 14; Col. 1:15-19; John 10:30; 14:9; Rom. 6:23; 2 Cor. 5:17-19; John 5:22; Luke 1:35; Phil. 2:5-11; Heb. 2:9-18; 1 Cor. 15:3, 4; Heb. 8:1, 2; John 14:1-3.)

Jesus did not have a earthly father but a heavenly father. God & the Holy Ghost is the self same spirit, only in different office work God the Creator & the Holy Ghost the comforter. The spirit of God is the same spirit of the Holy Ghost. Therefore God put that seed into Mary womb. Conceived by the Holy Ghost born of a Virgin Birth by passing all traits of sin through the act of sex. God can speak anything into existance.

The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God." -Luke 1:35

Obviously atheists are forced to say it never happened because it disagrees with their naturalistic philosophy that nature is the only creating sustaining force on the earth.

Nobody, even Christians, can no more understand how the virgin birth happened than we can Jesus healing men born blind or raising the dead.

Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." -Matthew 19:26

The inspired Record says: “But the birth of Jesus Christ was in this way. During the time his mother Mary was promised in marriage to Joseph, she was found to be pregnant by holy spirit before they were united.” (Mt 1:18) Prior to this, Jehovah’s angelic messenger had informed the virgin girl Mary that she would ‘conceive in her womb’ as the result of God’s holy spirit coming upon her and His power overshadowing her. (Lu 1:30, 31, 34, 35) Since actual conception took place, it appears that Jehovah God caused an ovum, or egg cell, in Mary’s womb to become fertile, accomplishing this by the transferal of the life of his firstborn Son from the spirit realm to earth. (Ga 4:4) Only in this way could the child eventually born have retained identity as the same person who had resided in heaven as the Word, and only in this way could he have been an actual son of Mary and hence a genuine descendant of her forefathers Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Judah, and King David and legitimate heir of the divine promises made to them. (Ge 22:15-18; 26:24; 28:10-14; 49:10; 2Sa 7:8, 11-16; Lu 3:23-34) It is likely, therefore, that the child born resembled its Jewish mother in certain physical characteristics.

Think what you want. The Bible and yes, even the Qur'an teaches that Jesus was born of a virgin (Mary). Without Holy intervention this could not have happened.
In order for you to completely understand how and why this happened, you have to study the Bible.
With God all things are possible.

Of course, the answer would be one or the other. They will continue to disagree until it is resolved for them.

On the side of the Christians, with the Creator, who knows everything about what he created and how it works, it would be nothing for him to transfer a perfect life into Mary's womb.

Without that belief, then, yes, it would be impossible for it to happen.

I think the point is, all we can do is make educated guesses. I've got a handful, but they are just that - guesses.
