You can, but use a thick milk product, like cream. Add some finely grated unsweetened coconut to make up the flavour. Coconut milk is best, though.

For your curry recipe, you can use cow's milk as a substitute
for coconut milk. Of course, coconut milk tastes much better
in the curry dish.
On the other hand, you can still cook a dried curry dish without using coconut or cow's milk! In this case, many types of spices
(about 11 types) are added to the spicy-hot mutton curry.

You can, but it is going to taste terrible. If you are making a dish with curry the taste of the real milk is not going to end up well. Coconut milk is sweet and mixes well with the spice of the curry. Cows milk will probably cook up just as well but the taste is not going to be right.

You could, but you wouldn't get that authentic coconut flavor that you would get if you used coconut milk. Coconut milk is an ingredient used in Thai cooking and some Indian cooking. It's a standard ingredient especially used to make Thai curries. Without that coconut milk, you won't get that Thai curry flavor that you usually associate with Thai curry. I wouldn't recommend it.

Cows milk or evaporated full cream milk is the preferrred choice for curry lovers in Malaysia. Food stalls in and around Kuala Lumpur use evaporated milk instead of coconut milk. Try it and you will be amazed.

Not really if you want that authentic South Indian/South East Asian taste.
On the other hand, if (like me) you don't like the taste of coconut milk, you could try this:
soak about a quarter cup unsalted cashews in hot water, then blend them along with their soaking liquid until you get a creamy puree. Add it to your curry.

I wouldn't use either as they're not the same creamy consistency. For a heavier alternative to coconut milk/cream, try using some low fat, natural greek yoghurt and you could add rehydrated dessicated coconut for the additional flavour.

If you don't like coconut milk try swapping it for cream or natural yoghurt I don't think cows or soya milk would work.

Not really as its the creamy taste that you are after. You could add cream I suppose but the coconut adds something extra. I don't like coconut but i love it in my curry sauce.
