Deductive reasoning is to explain the unknown by the known, like you can with math.

Inductive reasoning is used to develop hypotheses to explain the known by the unknown. Then the hypothesis is tested and verified, or not, over time.

Life = Ying + Yang

Brooks is right about the Ying in life, but did not understand the Yang.
