If your question is about which nationality tips the best then I agree Americans are the best.
Tipping for service is a common characteristic of Americans. I think it is because they seem to get the connection among all of us more
than others.
Have fun but be safe.

I believe that people that never worked in the service industry are bad tippers. I too worked in the service industry all my working life 'til recently, so I get it. I always tip on the service, the very least is 20%. I've been known to tip over 100% just because of the service, not rich just a rare bird.

in the US, not tipping means not paying a service. In EU, the service is already included - theoretically. In fact, service is often underpaid as is in the US, so in facts I tend to add anyway a 5 to 10 percent (while in the US I do 20 to 25).
I think it is a matter of paying for what you are getting... :) and it is motivational.
Who is the worst? people who have never travelled, and who believe that whatever they do at home is standard. and the US folks out of the US, sometimes tip ZERO, only because their guidebook says it is not mandatory!!! LOL
Note: nowhere in Paris tipping is an insult. it would be if you give it to a friend - but not in a restaurant or in the hotel business. Garanteed. Don't believe, or you will be the worst tipper...

Americans are great tippers. Anyone in the US wh ois from out of the US is a bad tipper. Chinese are awful tippers even if they live in the us. I waited tables in the US and anyone who was not of my race left a much smaller tip in general than those of my race. Sucks huh.

Actually, I've heard the French are the worst tippers. I have a friend who did a semester abroad in Paris, and she said tipping in France is considered an insult, as if you're implying that you're better than the person you're tipping. In America, waiters and waitresses make most of their money off of tips, and sometimes will have a table of people who are foreign to America and its' customs, and will tip very poorly.

The best tippers on the ones that get the best service. I have been known to leave 2 pennies on a table....just so they know I didn't forget, this is what I felt they deserved. Tipping has become such a gimme, you have to remember that you need to earn it, heck if we could get our own food or our own drink, we would!

The elderly. I remember going out to a restaurant with my grandparents and great uncle and aunt. For a $70 restaurant bill, they left an $8 tip. And they were proud of it! "That ought to make her day," were the words, I believe. I was embarrassed; so much so that I slipped the waitress an extra tip on the way out.

That is probably because in many other countries including some in Western Europe, gratuity is automatically added to the bill and patrons aren't expected to tip.

students....young people....and the misguided who think that you're still only supposed to tip 10%....and a lot of people also think that servers get minimum wage at least so they don't feel they need to leave a tip at all so 10% is them being generous...more people need to be educated on how little servers make per hour....that they really rely on their tips to pay the bills.
I always tip at least 18%....sometimes more...sometimes if we had horrible service I will go lower but never lower than 10% for really crappy service.
We went to Sea World with to of my sister-in-laws....my m-i-l gave one of my s-i-ls money for us to eat....and we had perfectly normal service and she was only going to leave 10%....how embarassing that was for me...cuz that makes me look cheap and unappreciative as well as her....my husband and I added some money to it.
I hate when people don't appreciate the service they are being given.
