Well - I'm certinaly no expert, but Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon talks a lot about eating properly during pregnancy in order to have a healthy pregnancy and baby. There's an emphasis on healthy fats, traditional eating and the specific dietary practices of traditional societies. Many cultures had a special diet for newlyweds and nursing mothers that would ensure healthy babies.

I can't speak for how it works for pregnancy - but I know that since my family has started eating this way, we're all a lot healthier.

If you're a Christian, or even if you're not, I highly recommend the book "Supernatural Chilbirth" by Jackie Mize. It's wonderful.

Are there relatives on either side of the family with polydactyly? If we assume that both you and your husband are carriers of the gene, you probably have a fifty percent chance of having another polydactyl child. If only one of you carries the gene, it's only a twenty five percent chance..... but bear in mind, statistics are not nearly as accurate with such small numbers of people.

Polydactyly can also be caused by outside influences creating mutation of the cells, so if there is no family history of this issue, nature may win out and prevent such a defect from occuring. Unless, of course, you smoke... http://www.timesdispatch.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=RTD%2FMGArticle%2FRTD_BasicArticle&c=MGArticle&cid=1128769259824&path=!flair&s=1045855936229

If you have one child with it, she and you should have been evaluated by a geneticist, who could more accurately answer this important question.

My feeling is that you have a higher than average risk of this happening, but I would just be guessing.
