I often reveal my buddhist faith and all these people jump out and say FEAR JESUS or FEAR THE LORD or FEAR GOD, INFIDEL. They also usually write in all caps. I don't understand whats so scary. I don't mean that to be offensive if it is. According to Christian scriptures Jesus was a man of great compassion and God loves everybody. Whats to fear!?!? Shouldn't love be the right word?

I find it hard to believe that a Christian used the word "infidel". A Christian should believe in Jesus, know the Word of God, live the Word of God, and share the Word of God with others. If we do this, there is no reason to fear God, but to love Him. He is giving us a reward of eternal life. Role modeling true Christian behavior is the way to share the Word of the Lord with others - not fear. I don't think the people who are trying to scare you into a belief in Jesus really understand the meaning of Christianity. Jesus did not try to scare anyone!

Christians do not use the term "infidel," muslims so. I do not think you encountered a christian. Christians and buddhists usually get along well.

But when Christians use the expression "fear of God" they mean to show Him respect

YOu are totally right bro, those who tell you that are those freaky loners that are 32 and still live with their parents and are virgins and probably live in little towns of 1000 people.

As a Roman Catholic who has always been in catholic schools with "smart" and "cultured" priests I knowo my faith well and there is no reason to fear him. They are just dumb extremists like in many other religions. So don't think we are all like that,, mainly you will find these freaks in the US that watch christian TV.....they are lame.

Like you said Jesus is compasionate and we do no tneed to fear him, he loves us, we jus thave to try an dlive by his teachings

Oh, and those chain mails of "if you love God send this to 10 ppl", those are BS as well, just delete them....

They are just disturbed people messing with you. Normal Christians do not fear the lord or JEsus. They may be trying to tell you that if you sin you must repent or something...otherwise you can dismeiss them as Christians as you would dismiss Hitler as an example of a good Christian.

Those people are idiots.

I am a christian and I don't jump out in front of people screaming about my religion.

To 'fear' the Lord means to respect him with awe, it's a form of reverance.

It was probably a ploy by the medival religious leaders to keep people under check. To ensure there is no revolt against them for all the atrocities they were commiting on the common men. Otherwise observence of the virtues would not have been hammered on the poor & common men while the rich had a ball.

my version; I am a christian, I don't fear the Lord, what I fear is loosing my faith and feeling dead inside, I feel alive knowing I'm strong in my faith and in the Lord. This is what works for me.

The word translated from the original scrolls as 'fear' means 'to respect to avoid condemnation from God'.
