Okay here's the thing. I have a friend named Rachel and we were friends in high school. She graduated a year before me and I didnt see her for like a year b/c she went off to college. Well, not I'm in college and it turns out she transferred to where I am. ok, here's the real dilemma. I kinda like her and was thinking about asking her out, but i dont know if she has a bf or not. Oh yeah, we dont have any classes together, but she has the same class i have just right after me, so i see her every M, W and F. We always speak to one another and smile and just be friendly, but how should I go about asking her out? Please help me. Oh yeah, I dont think she knows that I kinda like her.

Rebuild your friendship. Have a study group or take her to lunch as a friend first. Find out what's going on in her life nowadays so you can figure out how you should react. That way you can salvage the friendship if she's in a relationship since you knew before you asked her out romantically.

I'd go ahead and ask her if she wants to hang out. If you go straight for a real date, things could get confusing. If you just ask her to hang out and watch a movie or something you might be able to get a better idea if she feels a certain way. Then maybe you could ask her to go out to lunch or something. Not a fancy dinner or anything but just lunch on a saturday afternoon maybe. You should kind of build it up from the ground if you're friends first. Hang out, talk, etc, and then eventually you can tell her how you feel, or if you find out she doesn't feel the same way, things wont get awkward, b/c you never asked her out on a date.

Next time you see her ask her if she would like to grab a drink some evening and catch up on the old times - if she agrees - when you're out you can ask her personal questions such as if shes dating anyone.
If she does have a boyfriend and says no when you ask her, just be like oh cool, I jsut thought it would be fun to talk about the old days - so that way you wont look like shes rejected you
