McCormick is discontinuing a strange little product called "Imitation Butter Flavor Extract".Just the sound of it alone suggests a bygone era where there was a synthetic version of everything.

What was this exactly for?Are you supposed to add it to plain yellow cake mix and frosting, present the finished cake and say "It's Butter Flavor!"? Seems like sixties surrealism, where
some old cookbook with dated photos will unearth, with housewives proudly displaying their "butter" floavord creations.

I think it was used for things like pop corn, corn on the cob, toast, etc. No I will not miss the passing. I love butter ... the real thing.

I won't lose sleep over this news. I don't like the taste of butter. Too bad I can't say the same for chocolate.

It is for people that are on a low or no fat diet and can't have butter but still want the taste on their foods.

I'll miss it. My wife used to put it into pizza crust, when we made home-made pizzas, they tasted just like Chicago-style.
