It's because of the way he looks. His mane looks like a big crown on his head and he's beautiful.

Well a few factors in my opinion. 1. Lions have king-like attitude. They live in a pack, where the Alpha Lion sleeps with all the lioness there, the male lion does not haunt, the lionesses do, he only protects his boundaries and pack from other male young lions! 2. They are the biggest of the cat family. 3. They have power and speed and agility combined. 4. They do look and act like royalties. But again, I don't think lions live in forests anyway!

Well, a crocodile really doesn't live in the jungle per say (it lives in a swamp). Isn't an eagle the king of the sky or something? Lions just seem magestic when you look at them, and thus they are considered the royalty of the jungle.

This is one of my pet peeves! Lions live on savannahs, not in forests OR jungles.
I think they call it that because lions rule their habitats through intimidation and their women do most of the work. Just like a real king. jk
BTW: Isn't jungle a funny word?

The king of the forest is the oak tree idiot(well for trees anyways). The lion is the king of the jungle.

Lions have few natural predators, and besides, Lions make the Lionesses do all the work. Just the way any good King would.
