Medicine is not always the key. Try to change your surroundings. Start trying to break the bad habits. Eating right and excercising can help. Also get some sunlight. Talk to friends and loved ones about your problems. All of this stuff can help you. As a last resort go to your doctor for medicine.

You can't just get rid of it. You need to get on medication and get some counseling. You can't do it alone. Trust me, I have major depression which is the most severe form of depression. It's very hard to deal with on my own. I am on Wellbutrin XL for it but no counseling. I've tried counseling and psychotherapy in the past but to no avail. I'm thinking about giving it a second chance. Join a local support group. Talk to friends and family. Keep a journal and put all of your thoughts into it so that they are not all jumbled up in your head. That helps a lot. It takes a lot of time and commitment and you have to want to get better. I wish you the best of luck with whatever you decide.

Our whole life we try to get rid of things and mostly never do. We just side step, go around and then come back to it again. I think the reason is because we never try and understand our state. If we do try and understand a certain thing, the understanding itself is the way out of it. Let's take depression. where does this depression come from. from within us. we always blame somebody or something for our depression, but is it really true. Our depression is of our making, due to our reaction to a certain happening or a situation or something somebody said etc. The depression is caused due to our reaction, our afterthoughts, our memory of a certain incident. Let us not try and get rid of the depression. Let us be alert and aware of our mind, our thoughts, our reactions from moment to moment. you will then understand how this depression originates and in that understanding you will go beyond the depression and it will not take you over. You'll be able to see the process of depression and understand it and it will not effect you.

Goto an unknown place and spend some time there. Best way is to go to some movies continously for 2 or 3 days to remove the thought from the mind that provokes depression.

First get out of fear. You don't think that you lack in too many things than those nearby you.
Don't keep alone. Have some good friends and discuss good subjects. Avoid fearful isues and tales.
Develop hobbies like singing, dancing and long walking.
Go on improving your confidance by first doing small things successfully. Then shift over to big or difficult ones.
Don't curse yourself if mistaken; correct your mistakes and go ahead with other works instead of merely thinking.

You can't get rid of it, you have to overcome it. There are medications to aid with the symptoms. But in reality therapy is your best bet, because with depression you have to express and understand what is depressing you.

just think about your situation, why are you depressed, then think about how bless you are that you are not going through something even worse, everyone has problems and sometimes taking a look at reality and how your situation isn't that bad as the next person that doesn't have a place to stay, no food to eat, or is dying....etc Just thank God for the present time!
