You make a wish. If all the candles don't blow out your wish won't come true. Of course, we all know we can't eat cake with burning candles on it.

Because wax tastes like ***..
The ritual was symbollic of calling an end to the last year of your life back in a time when the last thing people did in the day was blow out the candle in their bedroom. You wish before blowing out the candles because your birthday wish was meant to be for the comming year of your life. You have to make it before you begin that year.

You got to have one helluva set of lungs to get all those babies to fly off the cake...we were only allowed to blow those candles OUT !

just to get some hunger, by loosing some energy for blowing the candles, and then eating the cake, if u want to eat it, and have it too.

So the candle doesn't burn too much otherwise its drops wax onto the cake and makes it tastes disgusting and inedible.

becuase then we would get all the wax on the cake and then we would have to take that off 2 and that would be a waste of time...lol

to ward off bad spirits for another year. its a pagan tradition that most of us have adopted not even knowing it. just like saying "bless you when someone sneezed that was originally done to keep your soul from escaping it was believed that when you sneezed evil spirits were trying to expell your good soul from your body and replace it with evil. thus saying "God bless you was supposed to stop that from happening.thats why i don't say bless you.
