It's easier to point to the source than to think for yourself. The bible has many good points, but no one follows everything espoused in it.

Well, I'm with you on this one.
Up front, admittedly, Cheech's question was very broad and impossible to answer (realistically) in a short response.
And sometimes it's appropriate to include a reference to a more detailed work that supports the points one is making, so that people can learn more detail if they want.
However, Viki's response to Cheech's question is all footnote, no "synopsis," and shows a real lack of ability to engage in "other-centered" communication. Spewing out data (regardless of its validity or lack of it) has nothing to do with sharing one's ideas and experiences with another person.
While I'm a Christian, I'm disappointed when I see answers like that, which show disregard for the person who asked the question. *I* don't even read that stuff. I don't take it seriously. I can't.
(If the person cannot organize an answer in a way that meets the questioner's needs, they probably don't understand the topic themselves, and the mass of text is not worth reading.)
If I want an impersonal spew of data, I'll do my own research. If I've asked a question on YA, then I want a personal answer that specifically addresses my need.
Still, learning effective communication is a skill that can be learned, if someone is open. So there's still hope. :) I know I'm still working on myself.

I agree with you. I mean if someone wants a answer from the bible or something like that why not just go look yourself. I think it is a waste of time too...unless you are literally asking a question that says...please copy and paste Corinthians 1:11 or something like that.
Personal responses are much better and thought provoking.
Have a good one--jammiegirl.

i'm surely an extremely complicated woman residing in a terminal state of bewilderment yet i like to think of of myself as a very easy woman with purely 2 common desires; donuts and liposuction.

I agree. I would rather have someone's personal opinion than a copy/paste general answer. I wouldn't say that it's pathetic to do that but it's not very helpful especially when you start seeing the same answer in different questions. It lowers the value of that persons opinion because they just say the same thing over and over again.

I agree with "spareo1". It's the Word of God. If only one takes the time to read it--that just might be the one it was intended for; and, could make a gigantic difference in that person's life. Sometimes, long explanations are just needed. If it's not your thing, you can just pass it up.
If I can wade through all the hate, negativism and vulgarity to get to some good meat, I think y'all c'n just pass up what doesn't appeal.

I know. I mean I never actually READ them! When I quote Buddha it is never long enough to be annoying to other people. Some questions have one answer take up more space then all the rest put together and it is completely ridiculous.

It's useless to quote the Bible if you don"t understand it's spirit and the context and real reason someone has written what a person or another quotes , the same goes with the laws of the justice , they have to be applied according their spirit not their letters .

Many times we are ask a certain question about the bible, therefore we have to quote scriptures, we are only doing what people ask for. I have quote many scriptures, But in no way can I give all the scriptures that pertains to a certain question, because time & space will not allow. If people don't want a long answer, they should not ask a long question.

When I give someone an answer, especially with all the different beliefs, I just want people to know where I got my answer. All my answers come from my heart, but I give scripture to let people that are not familiar with the Bible, be able to look these answers up to know thay are sincere and true. wouldn't you prefer that ?

totally agree. My ex and her family are all 'born-againers' and her ******** father quoted me a load of shite telling me if I wasn't born-again I'd go to hell.I asked him if this included my child and this prick said yes.I am totally atheist cause all the God-Squaders I've ever had the misfortune to come across have been nuts.I think it makes them feel better to quote someone else rather than actually have their OWN opinion..Ah bless their lost little souls.
